Nathan's Pov
"Hey, Grace," I said, wiping a bit of sweat from my forehead as she walked into the kitchen, a box of chocolate pastries in hand. "How was the vacation?" Her face lit up instantly.
"Oh, it was amazing! Lilian and I had the best time on the beach, cocktails, and no emails. Honestly, I might just quit and move there permanently." I chuckled, reaching for the green protein shake waiting on the counter.
"I'm glad you had a great time. You deserved it." Grace's gaze flicked to the shake, and she made a face. "You're still drinking that swamp juice?" I smirked, giving the bottle a lazy swirl. "Discipline, Grace. You should try it sometime."
"Please," she said, unwrapping a pastry. "I'd rather die happy and full of sugar." I leaned against the counter, watching her take a bite.
"Speaking of sugar Ethan texted earlier. He's bringing in a new field file. Something about the retired soldiers' deaths." Her expression shifted subtly, but sharply. "You think it's connected?"
