Chapter 38 - Chapter Thirty-Eight

Reed's Pov

"Here, eat something," Nicholas said as he handed me a bowl of soup. It smelled incredible, and my stomach growled in response.

"Thank you," I replied simply, with nothing more to add. How does one get past the loss of loved ones? My father practically disappeared after hearing the news. Somewhere deep in that messed-up heart of his, he might have loved my mother. I believe we all grieve in different ways some drown their sorrow in expensive liquor, some explode in anger, and others throw themselves into work. We were in the kitchen, which features a sophisticated mix of materials like a gray stone backsplash and large floor tiles, opening to an outdoor area via a full-height glass door.

Nicholas watched me for a moment, eyes steady but warm. He said in a low voice, "You don't have to talk. Just remember that you are not alone in this."
