Xavier's POV

I stood there, frozen, my hand still outstretched in the air as the door slammed shut behind Alex. My heart pounded in my chest, a harsh, unforgiving rhythm that was too loud for my liking. One second, I thought I was finally getting through to her. I thought I was on the verge of hearing the words I'd longed for, words that would've changed everything. But now… now she was gone. Slipped right through my fingers like sand, leaving me staring at the empty doorway where she'd just been.

I wanted to scream. I wanted to punch something—hell, I wanted to punch him.

I should've known. He was that guy, the guy who never understood the meaning of privacy. Always barging in, always messing things up, like a bull in a china shop. But this? This was beyond the worst possible timing.
