Chapter 20 - Daella IV

(Third Person POV)

"Daella claimed Dreamfyre?" Alysanne said with surprise, "Is this some sort of joke?"

Alyssa was standing in front of her parents, who were having tea, "It's not a joke." She said with a smile, "She really did. We all went flying afterwards; it was quite the moment."

"So that's why I heard reports of five dragons flying above the Blackwater." Jaehaerys said with a serious frown, "You went ahead and did this, Alyssa."

Alyssa looked at him, "Me?" She asked, "What could you possibly mean?"

"Don't play coy, girl." Jaehaerys said, "From the moment Vaelor was betrothed to the late Lady Ellyn, you were against it. I knew that you wanted Daella to be with him at any cost."

Alysanne looked at him, "Well, that is true." She said, "But Alyssa couldn't possibly be behind this. She knows how dangerous it is to try and claim a dragon."

Jaehaerys took a sip of his tea, "She was reckless when she claimed her own dragon." He said, "This is no different."

"It was Vaelor's idea, actually." Alyssa smirked slightly, "But it doesn't matter now, does it?"

"Vaelor wouldn't risk his sister's safety that way." Jaehaerys said, shaking his head, "But if you wish to-"

"Jaehaerys, please." Alysanne cut him off, "She is right, what is done is done. Daella is unharmed and she has a dragon now. There is not much we could do now."

"You are right." The King said as he set his cup down, "But this makes the matters of marriage a bit more complicated. I don't know if giving a dragon to just some House would be the right idea....."

"Yea, that's true." Alyssa crossed her arms, "What could we ever do?"

"Mayhaps marrying her to House Velaryon is the right move." Jaehaerys said, "For the sake of the realm. They are a Valyrian House, so keeping us together as close as possible will be ideal."

Alyssa frowned, "Wait a minute." She started, "That is-"

"The best course of action." Jaehaerys said, "Daella will be betrothed to Lord Corlys."

"What is your problem?!" Alyssa scowled angrily, "I want to know!!"

Jaehaerys raised an eyebrow, "I beg your pardon?"

"Ever since Vaegon rejected Daella, it seems your skull has been emptied out!!" Alyssa exclaimed, "Vaelor and Daella are a good match, why do you just refuse to accept that!"

"Daughter." Alysanne started

"Just do them that favor, father!!" Alyssa continued, "Daella loves Vaelor! And he does love her as well!"

"They will do as I say." Jaehaerys said, "And that is final."

"It won't hurt anyone if they are together!" Alyssa said with anger in her voice, "Why can't you just let them have that! If anyone-"

"That's enough!" Jaehaerys exclaimed, "I've heard enough of you, girl. Leave us. Now."

Alyssa turned around and walked out of the room angrily, slamming the doors behind her.

Alysanne looked at her husband, "She has a point."

Jaehaerys scowled, "I won't hear the same from you."

"I am not a daughter you can send away." Alysanne said with a challenging smile, "Vaelor is a good boy and Daella....she deserves someone good."

Jaehaerys stood up, "By the gods." He said,

"Can I just be left in peace about this?"

*****************

"I find it amazing that we are all trying our hardest to make this happen." Baelon chuckled as Alyssa was nuzzled up against his chest, "You tried your best, Alyssa."

Alyssa was pouting, "That old man is such a prick....." She said, "I hate him sometimes."

Aemon and Jocelyn were sitting on a couch across from them, "You are angry, I know that." Aemon said, "But insulting our father won't make anything happen."

"Agreed." Jocelyn said, "The King will always be steadfast in his decisions."

"Why must he be against this?" Alyssa hugged Baelon tighter, "I tried my best, but I have done nothing for my precious sister...."

"He truly believes he is doing the right thing." Aemon said, "By building an alliance with House Velaryon, ensuring their support for generations, our standing in the Realm is reassured."

"Yea, that's true." Baelon said, "But still, I do want our siblings to be happy. You know damn well they love each other."

Jocelyn smiled, "Yes. Who would have thought that little Vaelor would be smitten by someone like his sister." She said, "It is adorable to see."

"What's adorable to see?" They turned to see Vaelor standing in front of the doorway, "Why are you all sulking about?"

Aemon looked at him, "Vaelor." He said, "Alyssa tried her best, but to no avail."

"I heard." Vaelor walked towards them, "Daella is sad, in her bed."

"Well, go and comfort her, you fool." Alyssa scowled

"I will." Vaelor said, "But not before I tell you my backup plan. It is quite a risky one and it will produce a scandal. I don't know what the severity of the scandal would be, but I am going to do it. This way, father will pull back on his decision."

Baelon frowned, "What are you planning?"

"I will wait until nightfall." Vaelor said seriously, "And I will comfort Daella."

Everyone stared at him, blinking slowly, processing what he had just said. They all immediately understood what he meant, but they were not so sure if that is what he truly said.

Alyssa stood up immediately, "You will what?!"

Baelon also stood up, sweating slightly, "Hey hey, little brother." He said with nervousness, "Don't be so stupid, alright? We can think of something else."

"My my....." Jocelyn said, "That is...not something I expected from you."

Aemon was left speechless, simply staring at his brother.

"That was my ultimate move." Vaelor said seriously, "I just wanted to run this by you."

"No!" Alyssa said, "That is bad, very bad! Daella isn't prepared for something like that!"

"What if you mess up and.....you know....!!" Baelon said, "A scandal would be the least of your worries. Father will severely punish you!!!"

Vaelor gave them a serious look, "For the sake of my sister..." He said,

"That is a risk I am willing to take."
