Chapter 12 - Preparation.

Ryven shakes her hand. It is cold, harshly so.

"I have recently graduated from the Somnium academy, one of the most prestigious schools in sector 7. In order to gain my dreamer teaching credentials, I've been ordered to help tutor special individuals such as yourself." She says calmly.

Ryven merely nods.

"Now then, let us get into the basics." She continues, moving to the foot of my bed.

Dreamers, as the name may signify are individuals who have survived a hunt from some lunar creature, allowing them to gain special powers regarding the creature they have beaten. With these powers, these so called dreamers are sent back into the larger lunar plane when fall asleep."

Ryven awkwardly raises his hand, making Vale pause.

"What do you mean by greater lunar plane?

"Ah yes. You were abducted during the hunt, meaning you were transported to the lunar plane, but locked in someone's expanse-a dimension created by their body after reaching a certain stage to produce a sort of home field advantage when fighting against an opponent during a blood moon."

"Well I remember the spider being extremely angry and concerned when I pulled out my Odachi from the rift." He commented, hoping to get some sort of reasoning. "Michael said it was rare" he continued, using a pair of air quotations.

"Yeah. It is indeed quite a rare occurrence when a first timer is able to outpower their opponents expanse, being able to access their own, even in an instance like yours when it was only a small amount."

"So the rift from which I pulled my sword from is my own expanse?"

"Mhm." The lady nods confidently.

"The fact you were able to do such a thing might give us a clue as to what your powers might be."

"How so?" Raven asked doodling with his hands in his lap

"As I stated before, your power comes from the opponent in which you've beaten during the first hunt.

"So I just inherit it?" He asked looking up into Vale's eyes.

"Not exactly" she responds. "You do inherit the main idea of their powers. However, there is always some little distinction regarding the use of it."

"What do you mean?" Ryven asks, giving Vale a puzzled look.

"Well, first there are many different categories of powers such as passive powers, active powers, conditional powers, emotional powers, environmental powers, reservoir based powers, artifact linked powers, transformative powers, etcetera. I doubt we have time today, but tomorrow we can start narrowing down on what your powers may be." She tells him, looking out the window.

"Night will soon be upon us, so I want to give you the run down of what'll happen when you fall asleep."

Ryven nods.

"Alright. As soon as you fall asleep, you will wake up, but not on earth. It's pretty trippy the first few times. You may even be a little confused." She continues.

"You'll be in a whole new environment, likely in an empty space of moon stone and craters. Looking up, you may be able to see the sun, the earth, the stars, and even other planets."

Ryven leaned backward slightly against his pillows, brows still furrowed from trying to connect all the pieces. "So when I fall asleep… I'm just suddenly there? On the Moon?"

Vale clasps her hands behind her back, posture formal and voice patient.

"Yes. The moment your body falls asleep, you will wake up in an environment similar to the moon, but not exactly the moon. It will feel physical, tangible, just like real life. The dimension does it's best to mimic our reality's actual moon, including the cold and low gravity."

"But I'll be able to breathe normally?" Ryven asks, giving her a confused sort of look.

"Yeah, we don't know if it's because we are dreamers, or if it is due to the dimension, but we are miraculously able to breathe, hear, and talk, even in the vacuum of space." She responds softly.

"The first you are gonna need to do, is ensure that you are in a safe space. Look around, and make sure no creatures are around, nor sneaking up on you. It's your first night, so you may be able to fight 1 or 2 creatures, but not a horde, so be on the look out."

"Alright," Ryven responds.

"Anything else I should know?" He asks.

"Just becareful. Try to stay safe without garnering to much attention. See if you can find a village, or maybe even some ruins to spend the night. I never recommend approaching dreamers on your first day. You are not nearly educated, nor skillful enough to fight really anyone on your first day in the lunar plane."

Ryven sighs. "Then what am I supposed to do?" He asks curiously, throwing his hands in the air.

Vale looks at him for a moment, her sharp eyes studying him.

"Try to find a town, guild, or some place to take shelter in and meet new people. Who knows, after hearing your story, they may just let you in."

Time passed.

Vale stayed for a while longer before leaving, stating that she had other students to meet with.

At this point, Ryven laid silently in bed once again, with his father in the chair next to him.

For some reason, he looked even more stress then Ryven himself.

"Did you tell Sylven?" Ryven asked.

His father shook his head.

"She doesn't need to know yet. Survive this first night, and we can tell her together in the morning." He responded, trying his best to look tuff.

"You must think so little of me if your worrying about me dying during my first sleep as a dreamer." Ryven chuckled. "I survived a hunt for goodness sakes."

His father smiled.

"Please. I have no idea what it's like. But please. I can't possibly lose a son as well."
