Chapter 39 - The Old Maid

Playing with guns and hunting brought a thrill to Jiang Beicheng.

At the same time, he completed the task of accumulating ten smiles, doubling his social security fund to 20 million. On the first day of next month, the day he returns to China, 20 million in living expenses will be deposited into his account.

With this money, he planned to buy a house in the city and stop staying in hotels when he returned.

Then, he would head to Maysharp's Jiangnan City branch to pick up the Cadillac Escalade he ordered at the beginning of the month.

Last night, the general manager there sent him a WeChat message, saying the modifications and upgrades were complete.

If he had money left over, he would start working on the construction of the farm back home. His grandmother would probably be thrilled about it.

The upgraded system not only took his own joy and happiness into account but also included the happiness of those close to him.

All he needed to do was ensure they derived joy and happiness from him.

The system didn't specify who counted as "close people."

But Jiang Beicheng figured it would include family like his grandmother and someone like Li Xingying, with whom he had an intimate relationship.

The system was quite humane, offering a wide range of options.

Jiang Beicheng's mindset remained the same as before—he wouldn't deliberately chase after completing system tasks. He would simply accumulate smiles naturally while pursuing a happy life.

Snapping back to reality, he took the Nepalese kukri knife from his waist, cut a piece of deer antler velvet, and put it in his mouth to chew slowly.

The most valuable part of deer antler velvet was the topmost wax slice, followed by the half-wax slice, both of which could be chewed directly.

They were highly nutritious.

Due to low supply, they were very expensive. Even domestically farmed deer antler wax slices sold for about 20,000 yuan per jin (500 grams).

Wild ones? Forget about it.

That's why many wealthy people in China preferred to buy deer antler velvet from abroad.

The white powder slices and red powder slices were much cheaper, making them cost-effective options for soaking in liquor or brewing tea.

For gifting, naturally, only the best would do.

However, Jiang Beicheng and Morigen only hunted two deer today, and the wax slices they cut from them weren't much.

Morigen said, "I have some at the farm, dried. Take them if you need."

"Old buddy, name a price," Jiang Beicheng said.

"Just pay me the domestic price," Morigen replied cheerfully.

Back at the farm, Jiang Beicheng packed two jin and gave Morigen 40,000 yuan.

Morigen accepted it with a smile, slaughtered the pheasant they hunted today, and invited Jiang Beicheng to stay for dinner.

In the farm's wooden cabin, Jiang Beicheng, Morigen, and a few farm workers sat around a bonfire, drinking a little.

After drinking, Morigen arranged for a driver from the shooting club to take Jiang Beicheng back to the hotel.

"Brother Jiang, you've been drinking?"

Wu Keqing, who was watching Li Xingying edit videos, smelled the alcohol on Jiang Beicheng and quickly went to get him water. "Brother Jiang, have some water."

Jiang Beicheng smiled and nodded. "Did you two have fun today?"

Both of them showed somewhat dissatisfied expressions.

"The weather wasn't great today," Li Xingying said, standing up to walk behind Jiang Beicheng and massage his shoulders.

Jiang Beicheng: "Want to go again tomorrow?"

"No, we'll pack up tomorrow and buy some local specialties to bring back as gifts."

"Don't leave any regrets when you're out traveling."

"I'm already super satisfied with this trip," Li Xingying said, smiling as she kissed Jiang Beicheng on the cheek.

Having been intimate with Jiang Beicheng several times over the past two days, many of her actions came naturally, without considering others were present.

"Ahem~" Wu Keqing coughed twice to remind Li Xingying. "Should I just head out then?"

"Where are you staying?" Jiang Beicheng asked.

"At a hostel."

Jiang Beicheng: "You like staying at hostels?"

In foreign countries, there was indeed a hostel culture, especially for solo travelers who treated it as a way to socialize.

It wasn't always about saving money.

Jiang Beicheng assumed Wu Keqing, being outgoing, was there to make friends.

Wu Keqing shook her head. "Brother Jiang, I'm genuinely broke. Who'd stay at a hostel if they had money?"

Her words made Jiang Beicheng laugh.

He instructed Li Xingying, "Drive with Little Wu to pick up her luggage.

I'll book a room for her here. Tomorrow we rest, and the day after we head straight to the airport to avoid running around."

"Brother Jiang," Wu Keqing suddenly looked at him with deep emotion.

After a pause.

"You're like my real brother."

Jiang Beicheng shook his head and laughed. This fellow townsman was something else.

"I thought you were about to say something earth-shattering, but you just dropped a big one," Jiang Beicheng said with mock disdain. "I'm going to rest."

Li Xingying helped Jiang Beicheng back to his room to rest, then drove to pick up Wu Keqing's luggage.

"Brother Jiang is so good to people from his hometown," Wu Keqing said from the passenger seat. "Sister Li, is Brother Jiang always this generous?"

Li Xingying smiled and nodded.

Young Master Jiang's generosity went far beyond this.

But a sense of unease crept into her heart.

Young Master Jiang had first agreed to let Wu Keqing hitch a ride on the private jet, and now he was booking her a room at the best hotel. For a casual acquaintance, wasn't he being a bit *too* generous?

She couldn't help but glance at Wu Keqing. The girl was indeed beautiful, with a charm that rivaled Zhou Yu's. Most importantly, she had a youthful energy that was infectious.

Li Xingying started to worry—had the "big leg" she'd just latched onto taken a liking to this young girl?

Women's minds are sensitive.

"Sister Li, can I ask a bold question?" Wu Keqing suddenly said, interrupting Li Xingying's thoughts.

"What's that?"

"Is Brother Jiang married?" Wu Keqing asked directly.

The question seemed to be about Jiang Beicheng's personal life, but it was really asking if Li Xingying was a mistress.

"That's a bold question indeed," Li Xingying said.

"Don't be mad, Sister Li. My gossip instincts are just kicking in."

"No," Li Xingying said. "He's single."

"Single!"

Wu Keqing looked at Li Xingying in shock.

So what's your relationship with him?

Just *that* kind of relationship?

Brother Jiang plays wild.

"Maybe he got hurt by an ex-girlfriend and doesn't believe in love anymore," Li Xingying said.

"Oh~"

Wu Keqing nodded.

"Have you got a boyfriend?" Li Xingying asked suddenly.

"I'm too wild, not feminine at all. Guys either don't like me or can't handle me," Wu Keqing said bluntly. "I'm basically an old maid."

Her words made Li Xingying laugh.

"Who'd think such a pretty girl wouldn't have suitors!"

"I really want to date someone now," Wu Keqing said, clasping her hands in prayer. "God, please grant me a boyfriend who can make me behave."

This girl was too funny—Li Xingying was thoroughly amused.

"Even a budget version of Brother Jiang would do."

Wu Keqing's words silenced Li Xingying.

The two didn't talk about relationships for the rest of the drive.

The next morning, Jiang Beicheng took the two girls to a duty-free shop. There were mostly outdoor brands, many of which were available in China, so there was no need to buy them.

They picked out some New Zealand local brands, mostly wool products. New Zealand's wool was famous and not too expensive.

The three spent four or five thousand New Zealand dollars, about 20,000 to 30,000 yuan, and Jiang Beicheng paid the bill.

Dinner was at a Chinese restaurant in Queenstown. Chinese restaurants were pricey—five homestyle dishes cost over 1,500.

After dinner, back at the hotel, the two girls went to pack. They had a lot of stuff. Jiang Beicheng, with little to pack, went to the hotel bar, ordered a beer, and chatted with a Mexican couple for a while. After finishing his drink, he went to the spa room for a deep tissue massage before returning to his room to rest, holding Li Xingying's milk-scented body.
