Kelsey trembled, her face turning pale, but she said nothing.
President Kramer arrived to pick up Felicity. The little girl got into the car, but Kelsey stayed standing by the door, not moving to get in.
President Kramer looked at her, confused. "Aren't you getting in, Teacher Kelsey?"
Kelsey shook her head. "I have something else to attend to. President Kramer, please take Felicity home first."
Felicity poked her head out the window. "Teacher, let my dad drive you!"
Kelsey forced a smile. "I have some things to take care of. You go home safely, okay?"
President Kramer, though his private life was messy, was always smooth and proper in public. "It's not safe for a woman to be out alone so late," he said, his tone full of concern. "If it's not too urgent, let me give you a ride?"
He sounded so righteous, it was hard to imagine this was the same man who treated women as disposable playthings.
