As the days passed, the convoy moved through vast forests and fast-moving grasslands, crossing rivers and fighting monsters along the way. But as they were one obstacle away from their destination. But the convoy was unaware of that.
Edric and his friends were sitting on their cart. Edric and Brian on one side, and Mira and Darik on the other. Suddenly, Mira's ears flickered, her tail got stiff, and she stood up, taking support from the Darik. He gasped, "What are u doing?" She walked toward the driver and looked far away, as if toward the way, her eyes serious with suspicion.
Edric looked toward her with surprise, 'What is she doing? Wait… she might be picking up any danger.' He shouted, "What happened, Mira? Do you sense something?"
She looked back, "Yeah, there is something forward in the forest." Darik looked at him, "Now what shall we do?"
The driver took out a red cloth, "Kid, use this to tell the signal to others. I can't stop on my own; the carts behind us will crash into us."
He took the cloth and peeked out of the cart from his seat, waving the cloth. One of the knights on horseback spotted it and came rushing. As the knight aligned beside the cart while being in motion, "What happened?" He shouted, "There is danger up ahead, you need to stop the convey."
"Are you sure? Kid, you will get punished if it's some sort of joke from you." He stared into the eyes of the knight, "I am sure, sir, this beastfolk sensed it."
The knight looked at the Mira with disgust, "Tsk… ok, I agree." And rode forward with great speed.
He looked back at the Mira, "Good work." Darik looked at her, "What do you think is forward?" She lifted her shoulder, "I don't know."
The knight rode forward, passing through each cart in a flash. He arrived at the start of the convoy. He was in motion, and he passed through the Alric, eyes of both met and shouted, "Stop the convoy, danger ahead!"
Alric turned his head back toward a mage. She nodded and pulled out the staff from the house, and lifted it while chanting. As she rose, the staff's top glowed, and she fired a spell in the sky above the convoy.
Mira patted on Darik's shoulder, "See, see something is there in the sky," and he looked toward it. It flew high in the sky and then exploded like a firework; red sparkles covered the sky.
All the drivers pulled the horse strings, and the carts stopped with a jerk. All the knights walking alongside the carts stopped, turned their backs toward the carts, and got alerted, drew their swords, and looked for the things if something attacked.
The knight approached Alric; his breath was ragged. "Sir, there is a girl, a beastfolk, she is sensing danger up ahead."
He turned toward the knight, "Ok, go tell everyone not to step out of their cart." The knight turned around and started running alongside the convoy, announcing, "No one shall leave their cart. I repeat, no one shall leave their cart!"
As the knight passed by Edric's cart, Brian moved, looking around, shocked, "Did we arrive at the destination?"
Others looked at him with confusion. Darik stuck his head with a punch. He winced with pain, and Darik shouted, "You're dumb, you were sleeping all the time. There's something ahead." He rubbed his head, "I didn't notice, I thought we were with knights, so we will be safe."
The man sitting beside them laughed, "It's ok, knights are powerful, they will take care of things. We have Sir Alric with us."
Alric turned back at the knight who was standing beside him, "Go scout the area ahead," and turned toward the mage, "You too follow him." Both nodded and rushed forward on their horses toward the forest ahead.
He got off the horse and stretched his back. 'There was supposed to be no demons here; we cleaned this forest 3 months ago.'
The knight and mage arrived near the forest. He turned toward the mage, "We should stop here and talk on foot." She nodded, "Ok, let's stop here."
Both pulled the strings of the horses, and they stopped. He jumped down off the horses. He sighed, "Ok, you just need to look at my location. If anything happens, just fire a huge blast spell, so that I can escape."
She lifted her staff, "Let me detect with mana." He grabbed her staff, "We can't, there might be a demon or something that can sense mana."
She nodded and placed her hand on her armour. She closed her eyes, "I am leaving some of my mana on you; it will help me to track you."
She took her hands off him, "Now you can go." He sat on the ground and started to take off the boots. She gasps, "What are u doing?"
He smiled, "Taking off my boots will make my foot noise less," and stood up and jumped barefoot. He looked at her, "I am counting on you. My life is in your hands now."
He walked toward the forest, sneakily, 'Hopefully, there is nothing too dangerous in there.' As he entered the forest, he started to move forward while crossing through plants, as he moved forward.
He looked around with his keen eyes, 'There are no birds, no animals, nothing. It's all lifeless.'
As he looked around, he noticed a broken carriage, lying on the ground with its wheels flipped over.
He rushed toward it. As he approached it, he saw it was not a carriage anymore; it was debris of wood left. He ran his hands over it, 'It seems like something powerful smacked this, and made it break.'
He looked at its side, and there was the mark of dragging. He took a deep breath, 'Let's see, what this is?'
He continued to walk toward it while taking heavy breaths. He pushed through the bushes as he moved them with his trembling hands.
His eyes grew bigger, his face sweated, his body trembled, 'What is this thing doing here?'
