Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: The Vegeta Trio and the Ginyu Force

Not far from Planet Metamor, a small, war-torn planet drifted in the void.

The cities of this world looked as if they had just suffered a massacre—collapsed buildings littered the land, the ground was split open, and the air was thick with smoke and the stench of death.

"Have you two finished clearing out the natives on this planet?"

Inside a towering palace, a boy no older than eight sat upon the throne.

His widow's peak formed a sharp V on his forehead, and though his face was youthful, his cold, snake-like voice carried no hint of warmth or emotion.

Below him stood two figures—one a bald, burly man; the other, a long-haired child whose locks nearly reached his waist.

His hairstyle was peculiar—if dyed golden, it might almost resemble that of a Super Saiyan.

"The natives have all been wiped out,"

Raditz lowered his head, not daring to meet the boy's eyes.

"We made sure this time. Last time, Gran got ambushed by those feigning death—won't happen again."

Even the bald giant, Nappa, seemed uneasy under the boy's gaze.

That boy was Prince Vegeta.

At the mention of Gran's name, the veins on Vegeta's temple bulged. His voice turned razor-cold.

"Gran was a disgrace. A high-class Saiyan, and yet he was careless enough to be ambushed by weaklings—had his tail cut off, too. A shame upon our entire Saiyan race!"

He narrowed his eyes.

"You'd better make sure the natives are all dead this time. If either of you gets caught off guard… you'll end up just like Gran."

And Gran's fate?

He had been abandoned by Vegeta.

Both Nappa and Raditz trembled.

Without another word, they darted out of the palace and took off into the sky to double-check every inch of the planet.

Inside, Vegeta sat alone upon his throne, staring into the empty hall. No one could tell what he was thinking.

After a moment, he stood up.

"Hmph… damn you, Frieza. One day, I'll kill you myself."

The small prince's eyes were filled with raw, demonic fury.

Three years had passed since Planet Vegeta exploded. Ever since then, Frieza's attitude toward their team had shifted dramatically.

Whenever they finished a mission, another came immediately. Training time? Impossible.

Vegeta had long realized something was off.

Before Planet Vegeta exploded, every Saiyan had received a recall order from headquarters—his squad included.

But Vegeta had ignored it.

Soon after, the planet exploded.

Frieza claimed it was due to a meteor strike, that every Saiyan had perished in the blast.

A meteor? How absurd.

Planet Vegeta was home to countless powerful warriors—his own father, King Vegeta, and Raditz's father, Bardock, who alone possessed a battle power over ten thousand!

With Bardock there, could some "meteor" really destroy Planet Vegeta?

Of course not.

Frieza had lied.

But even knowing that, Vegeta couldn't defy Frieza openly.

So he and his squad had left headquarters and gone rogue.

For the past three years, they hadn't returned, nor obeyed a single order.

At first, Vegeta had feared Frieza might send assassins after them.

But as time passed, Frieza seemed to lose interest.

No more missions. No contact from HQ.

Vegeta didn't understand why—but he knew one thing: this was good news.

So from then on, the trio would conquer planets for supplies, train until resources ran dry, then move to the next world.

Even so, their numbers had dwindled.

Gran was the first to fall. Now, only Nappa and Raditz remained.

"Hmph, trash. Dead or alive, it makes no difference."

Vegeta rose from his throne and walked outside, then shot into the sky.

Time to train.

He hovered a thousand meters above ground, gathering energy blasts in his palms, and began raining them down upon the ruins below.

This reckless "prince's training" was his daily routine.

BOOM!

BOOM!

Explosions echoed across the land for more than twenty minutes before Vegeta finally stopped, breathing hard.

If I keep training this hard… I'll surpass Frieza someday.

A savage grin crossed his face as he imagined Frieza kneeling before him, begging for mercy.

Just then, Nappa and Raditz returned from the horizon.

Clearly, they had scanned the planet again with their scouters.

"Since you're back… both of you—come at me!"

Before they could react, Vegeta launched himself at them like a blazing comet.

"Crap! He's using us as punching bags again!" Raditz cried.

"Quit whining! You think we can run? Fight back, damn it!" Nappa roared.

At birth, Vegeta's power level had already been 1,000.

Now, at age eight, it had reached 6,000.

Nappa's was around 2,500, and poor Raditz… barely 600.

Together, they stood no chance.

But fleeing would only make things worse—so they fought back with all they had, hoping at least to suffer fewer bruises.

Meanwhile…

A medium-sized spaceship streaked through the stars.

Inside, five warriors sat in their seats—the Ginyu Force.

"They say that martial prodigy is only nine years old… and already defeated a fighter with a power level of 100,000. Think that's possible?"

The blue-skinned Burter stroked his chin, doubtful.

Jeice snorted.

"Captain Ginyu's trained for years and only hit 120,000! A nine-year-old beating someone with 100,000? Get real."

Ginyu, their captain, spoke slowly.

"No… it's possible. Some people are born with terrifying power. I once met someone whose battle power exceeded a hundred million at birth."

The cabin fell silent.

"H-how much?"

"A hundred million?! That's impossible!"

"There's no way such a being exists!"

"Captain, are you serious?"

Ginyu only shook his head.

He was, of course, speaking of their emperor, Frieza.

Once, he had even dreamed of switching bodies with him—but that idea hadn't ended well.

Suddenly

"Captain Ginyu! I'm detecting Vegeta's signal on a nearby planet!"

Recoome shouted, pointing at the radar.

"Vegeta?"

Ginyu's expression darkened.

"Word is, he's planning to betray Lord Frieza. We'll deal with him first. Move out."

Burter hesitated.

"What about that martial prodigy? If we don't recruit him, won't Frieza be upset?"

"He's still training on Planet Metamor. Eliminating Vegeta won't take long. Once we're done, we'll go fetch the prodigy."

"Understood!"

The ship abruptly veered off course—and set a direct path toward Vegeta's planet.
