After snapping the so-called Sacred Sword of the Kai, Gran let the silvery glow fade from his body as he withdrew from the Ultra Instinct - Omen state and returned to Beerus's side.
Beside them, Kibito and Shin were still frozen in shock.
Everyone's eyes were fixed on the two broken halves of the sword lying on the ground. The air around the lake was eerily silent—so still that even the wind seemed afraid to move.
A few moments passed.
Still, the shattered sword showed no sign of change.
"???"
Confusion flickered across Shin and Kibito's faces.
Wasn't their ancestor supposed to be sealed inside this sword?
Why was there no reaction at all?
Beerus's temple twitched. Irritation flared across his face as he barked,
"Old man, I know you're not dead! If you don't come out now, I'll seal you again—believe it or not!"
The instant those words left his mouth
Whoosh!!
A violent gust of wind roared across the lake.
Gran chuckled inwardly. So the old Kai really was playing dead. How childish.
Shin and Kibito, however, paled in disbelief.
Their ancestor... truly was sealed inside the sword!
In the next second
A blur of light shot out from the two halves of the broken blade, divine energy surging wildly in every direction.
"He's here!"
Both Shin and Kibito were trembling with excitement.
Their legendary ancestor—the Kai praised even by Angels—was finally being released!
Under their eager gaze, an old man in the Kai's ceremonial robes materialized before them.
He was short and frail, his face deeply wrinkled, his back hunched, and his narrow, squinting eyes gleamed with a sly, almost greasy cunning.
Boom!
The contrast hit Shin and Kibito like a thunderclap.
This was their ancestor—the Kai of legend from fifteen generations ago?
The one said to be wise, perceptive, and peerless in ability?
He looked more like a shady old man from the mortal realm!
The Elder Kai glanced lazily at his two foolish descendants but said nothing.
Then, turning toward Beerus, he bent down respectfully.
"Lord Beerus. Lord Whis."
Beerus folded his arms, voice cold.
"Weren't you pretending to be dead a minute ago? What's this, changed your mind?"
The Elder Kai's mouth twitched.
After sealing me for millions of years, can't I throw a little tantrum?
Ignoring the cat god, he turned his attention to the small boy before him.
Beerus's brow darkened instantly. "You old fool, looking away while I'm talking to you?"
He was about to strike, but Whis calmly raised a hand to stop him, shaking his head.
By now, the Elder Kai was already studying Gran from head to toe.
Beerus's anger subsided slightly—this was, after all, the real reason they'd come.
Despite his irritating personality, the Elder Kai's perception and knowledge were second to none.
Beerus wanted his evaluation of Gran.
"Greetings, Elder Kai," Gran said politely, bowing.
The old man didn't reply. His narrow eyes gleamed like scanning beams, sweeping Gran's body from head to toe.
Gran felt utterly uncomfortable, as though someone were probing him with X-rays.
Silence fell again.
Two minutes later, the old man's mouth began to twitch, sweat beading on his forehead, and a strange, fiery light burned in his eyes.
It was the look of a man who had just discovered a priceless treasure.
Then
"Ha! Hahahaha!"
His loud, booming laughter startled everyone.
Beerus nearly jumped, ready to smack him, but Whis tugged his sleeve to restrain him once more.
"Well, well!" the Elder Kai crowed. "Who would've thought I'd see such a monstrous talent the very day I was freed!"
His gaze on Gran blazed so intensely it was almost indecent.
He even licked his lips—the very picture of lecherous enthusiasm.
The old man hobbled forward, reached out, and, to everyone's horror, picked Gran up by the armpits, holding the small boy up to his face for inspection.
"No power leaking from his body at all—perfect control over his energy!"
"His aura is calm yet ethereal—his every movement feels natural, effortless. That's beyond the State of Selflessness!"
"Good heavens... you've reached the State of No-Self!"
"And your body instincts... every reflex resonates with your martial will. That's Second-Stage Instinct!"
"But the most terrifying thing... is your dimension!"
"Only nine and a half years old... yet you've already reached the Kaiō Peak Dimension! What kind of monster are you?!"
"My word... even Lord Beerus wasn't this outrageous at your age!"
The Elder Kai's voice trembled as he continued to marvel, still holding the small Gran aloft.
Beerus ignored the jab, exchanging a glance with Whis.
The old man's eyesight hadn't dulled a bit—his judgment was still razor sharp.
Gran, for his part, was speechless. The old man could see through everything about him with just one glance. It was both terrifying and awe-inspiring.
But…
"Elder Kai," Gran said with a twitching smile, "could you please put me down now?"
The old man squinted, still studying him. "Patience, boy. Let this old man take another look."
Suddenly
Vwoom!
A massive energy sphere, nearly a hundred meters wide, appeared above them.
Gran stood beneath it, one small hand raised effortlessly to hold it in place. His tone was calm but firm.
"I think you'd better put me down, Elder Kai."
The raw power radiating from that orb made the old man's knees shake.
He hastily set Gran back on the ground.
As Gran dispersed the energy ball, the Elder Kai finally noticed the boy's clothing—the distinctive, Egyptian-style robes of a God of Destruction.
"L-Lord Beerus... this child... he's the disciple you took three and a half years ago?"
Even while sealed, he had sensed when the Seventh Universe's new God of Destruction candidate had been appointed.
Beerus smirked, lifting his chin proudly.
"Not bad, right? My choice of disciple!"
Whis covered his face.
(Your choice? Who was the one who found him again?)
"I see... so he's the Seventh Universe's God of Destruction candidate. No wonder he's got such an edge to him!"
The Elder Kai could hardly contain his excitement.
That overwhelming aura earlier—he wasn't afraid of it at all.
This was exactly the kind of temperament a true God of Destruction needed.
"Lord Beerus's laziness has always been hopeless!" the Elder Kai cackled. "But with a prodigy like this, our Seventh Universe might finally soar again!"
Beerus's tail twitched. His fist clenched.
"So you are looking for another beating, huh?"
The Elder Kai immediately went stiff, forcing a cough as he composed himself.
"Alright, alright," he said quickly. "You wouldn't have released me for no reason. What is it you want from me?"
