Over the past two months, activity stirred across all universes.
Once they selected their candidates, every universe began training them in earnest.
But "our universe," by comparison… behaved strangely.
Supreme Kai Realm
Under the vast sacred tree, the Elder Supreme Kai sat cross-legged, eyes closed in meditation.
Nearby, Shin was observing the cosmos through a crystal orb.
Beerus and Whis lounged comfortably on beach chairs beside the lake.
As for Gran—he had vanished without a trace.
"Lord Beerus, these are all the developments in the other universes."
Whis recounted everything that had happened over the past two months, smiling as he concluded:
"Lord Beerus, the other universes are raising their candidates like insects in a jar, feeding and nurturing them. Are you sure you don't want to recruit a few more?"
"Recruit my ass. This entire battle is meant for Gran. If I bring in more candidates, that's basically signing my own death warrant!"
Beerus rested his cheek on his hand, glancing toward the Elder Supreme Kai beneath the tree.
That old man had been bathing and burning incense for two whole months.
It was suspicious, to say the least.
He remained seated under the tree, adjusting his condition as though preparing for something monumental.
"With a genius like Gran, why would I even look at anyone else?"
Beerus gave Whis a sideways glare. "Are you bored out of your mind? You're actually trying to egg me on!"
"I was only making conversation, Lord Beerus," Whis chuckled.
Beerus huffed, then returned his gaze to the meditating Elder Supreme Kai.
"Speaking of which… where did that brat Gran go? I'm about to start teaching him the Destruction Rule."
"No idea. He said he was going to 'bring back a Saiyan war god,' but I'm not sure what he meant."
"War god?"
Beerus yawned lazily. "Planet Vegeta was blown up by Frieza. How are there still so many Saiyans out wandering the universe?"
"Isn't that a good thing? Their talent is exceptional. With Gran leading them, our universe would definitely benefit."
Beerus rolled his eyes.
Whis clearly wanted to bring up the whole matter of Beerus letting Frieza destroy the Saiyans.
"Enough."
Beerus sat upright, eyes locked on the Elder Supreme Kai.
"That old coot has been bathing and burning incense for two months straight. What kind of stunt is he trying to pull?"
His voice grew tense.
Even Beerus couldn't guess what the Elder Supreme Kai was up to.
"I'm not sure. But it's obvious he's adjusting his state."
Whis narrowed his eyes, studying the old man.
"Let's go. He's about to awaken. We'll ask directly."
"Yes, sir."
The two headed toward the Elder Supreme Kai.
A gentle breeze fluttered beneath the sacred tree, brushing across their faces like cool silk—soothing and tranquil.
Beerus waited beside him.
Moments later, the Elder Supreme Kai slowly emerged from meditation.
His eyes snapped open with a razor-sharp gleam, yet his divine aura felt oddly warm and full.
"Old man, what have you been doing lately?" Beerus asked.
Whis remained silent, observing him with probing eyes.
Shin, still watching the universe through his crystal, perked up his ears.
"Haaah…"
The Elder Supreme Kai exhaled deeply, rising to his feet.
He stretched his back; his joints cracked sharply.
"If you don't talk, I'll beat you up," Beerus said, rolling up a fist the size of a boulder.
"Of course I've been preparing for the candidate Destroyer God battle in ten years," the old Kai said, rolling his eyes.
"?"
No one understood what he meant.
"That battle doesn't only involve you Destroyer Gods. It concerns us Supreme Kai as well!"
His voice grew serious.
"For the honor of the Seventh Universe, I must contribute as well!"
Beerus looked at him with a blank expression.
"So you meditated for two months? That's your idea of 'contributing'?"
Shin burst into laughter.
BONK!
The Elder Supreme Kai darted over and cracked Shin on the skull, then quickly returned to Beerus and coughed twice.
"Are you stupid or pretending to be? You still haven't figured out what I'm planning?"
Beerus and Whis exchanged glances—each seeing confusion in the other's eyes.
Then suddenly
A spark of realization flashed through them.
Unlock potential!!!
Beerus' eyes widened. "You mean—"
"That's right."
The Elder Supreme Kai smirked.
"With your reputation, Lord Beerus, our candidate is guaranteed to be ganged up on. And frankly, once the three weakest universes are eliminated, no one knows whether Lord Champa might send his candidates to stomp on ours for fun."
Gran's training time was far too short.
And if other universes awakened ancient lifeforms—creatures who had lived tens of millions, even hundreds of millions of years—Gran would undoubtedly be at a disadvantage.
It would be an unfair battle from the start.
That was what worried the Elder Supreme Kai.
For the sake of his precious disciple—and the honor of Universe 7—he refused to sit idle.
"That fat pig wouldn't dare!" Beerus roared.
"If eliminating three universes first ensures his safety, who knows what Lord Champa might pull afterward?"
Beerus fell silent.
Knowing Champa, he absolutely would pull something once he felt safe.
"That's for later."
He changed the subject. "But with your current condition, can you really unlock Gran's potential?"
Both Beerus and Whis understood well:
The Elder Supreme Kai's ultimate secret art—Potential Unleashing.
Many beings in the universe could unlock latent power, even Whis.
But such methods always carried drawbacks—corruption, instability, or diminishing returns.
Just like making a reckless wish to the Dragon for instant strength—shortcuts always came with a price.
But the Elder Supreme Kai's technique… was different.
Absolutely no drawbacks.
And afterward, the recipient would enter a mysterious heightened state.
That was the Elder's true anomaly.
"So with your current strength, can you really do it?" Beerus pressed.
Gran was no mortal.
He was a god.
Forcing open his latent potential was dangerous.
Even Whis feared the Elder Supreme Kai might die instantly from the strain.
"Of course I can!"
The Elder Supreme Kai clenched his fist proudly.
"My version has no side effects. I only need enough stamina."
Beerus grew excited. "Then when will you unlock it for him?"
"No rush. The battle is still over nine years away. I need several more years to adjust my condition."
"Fine. I'll teach him the Destruction Rule first. Once you're ready, you can unlock his potential."
Beerus and the Elder Supreme Kai exchanged a look—then both burst into hearty laughter.
With the strongest Destroyer God and the strongest Supreme Kai teaming up…
They couldn't even remember how to spell the word "lose."
Whis also smiled softly.
Universe 7 was truly becoming stronger and brighter.
North Galaxy
A handsome young god floated among the stars, checking a galactic map.
In the anime, Broly had been exiled to Planet Vampa, located at the far edge of the North Galaxy.
"Found it."
Gran compared the coordinates and nodded.
He pressed two fingers to his forehead.
Shwoom
His figure disappeared instantly.
