Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 Journey Ahead

The Sun family was travelling back towards the Capital Lord Sun Gong was promoted as a forth rank official in court, in the judicial and law enforcement unit, it was a long journey and the family had just reached the Capital City, the journey was one rocky one as some members of the family fell sick then they have to take detour due to threat of robbers and then it also started raining so finally after facing all the troubles they have reached the Capital City.

Sun Gong was given a huge mansion it had a lot of courtyards and currently Sun Mei the beloved daughter of Sun Gong was resting in the Peony Pavilion, Sun Gong had one wife Zhu Lang. Zhu Lang was an absolute gorgeous women far different than others, it was Zhu Lang who had once saved Sun Gong's life and since then Sun Gong was an absolute devote of her.

Zhu Lang knew medicine and she was also a daughter of a physician she was skilled in art and surprisingly was educated for a women, this also made her raise great intellectual kids.

They had two children Sun Jun was the elder son while Sun Mei was their daughter who had just turned fifteen, Sun Jun was adapt in war fares and military arts not only that his scholarly knowledge was also great.

The Sun family originally belonged from a town north of the Jin Kingdom slowly with Sun Dong's father who was also a fifth rank magistrate at the small Weihong Town they came into scholarly service.

Sun Gong's mother died at a young age and later his father bought in another concubine through with his step brothers Sun Wong and Sun Sheng were born, they did not possess any scholarly knowledge and were mostly into trading and doing other businesses hence for this time for better business opportunity they also came to the Capital City with them.

Sun Gong was not particularly fond of these other two branches of his family due to there misconducts and underhanded means to deal with situations however for his father sake and to show filial piety to him he tolerated them.

Shi Luo the other wife of his father was still alive and was currently serving as the matriarch of the family and as his father's wife he still showed her some respect and out of such respect he could not deny her request to take Sun Wong and Sun Sheng with him to the Capital City.

Meanwhile Sun Sheng and Sun Wong were both married out of which they had Sun Wong the elder one had a daughter who was of Sun Jun's age and a son who was Sun Mei's age the elder miss and second young master of the family and Sun Sheng had a daughter who was of the age of Sun Mei she was the third young lady Sun Sheng also had a son who was barely 10 born out of a concubine.

Currently Zhu Lang was busy allocating Courtyards to all these people, however some of them were dissatisfied with the way things had been distributed.

"Lang, Sun Shi is the first young lady of this household and she will soon be engaged and wedded, why don't you assign a better courtyard to her fitting for her status." spoke the matriarch who was given fengshi pavilion at the East side of the mansion, she especially picked it for herself saying that this palce had great fengshui and now she also wanted to choose for others.

"Mother the courtyard I have given to first girl is already good enough it is situated just near yours so that if you miss her much you can call her over anytime I know how much filial Sun Shi is for you hence I thought she would like this arrangement." Zhu Lang was in the Sun family household since eighteen years now and what tricks and spurs she has not seen? she could tell at a glance that the matriarch was dissatisfied with the way courtyards were allotted and wanted to give the best courtyards of this manor to her sons and their family members.

"What about Sun Wong why don't you give him the courtyard at he North side of the manor?" she asked again

"Well there are only two courtyards at the northern side and one has already been given to Mei'er the other one has been allotted to the eldest young master." Zhu Lang was very decisive about this as the wife of a fourth rank official if she could not even make decisions about the accommodations of her children that it was all for none.

"But Mei'er is still young and she won't mind living in other courtyard to show filial piety to her uncle and aunt." spoke the matriarch with glee as she knew that if anyone opposed people would question filial piety of the second young lady of this household.

"How can that be, to show filial piety to her parents she shifted to place which is nearby to the main courtyard." spoke Zhu Lang without battling an eyelid.

This cannot be refuted to show filial piety to ones elders especially the parents was one of the greatest virtue as per Confucius the great sage.

Zhu Lang was a very strong lady especially her grasp over scholarly knowledge was vast and this was also one of the main reasons that Sun Gong was so fascinated by her off course her excellent medical skills was unmatched in the county town.

Seeing that she cannot win this round Matriarch Sun let things be for now, she was definitely dissatisfied with Sun Gong's family especially his wife but she could not really do anything. Once she tried to urge Sun Gong to take in another wife but he will have none of it, he even sent the concubines she found for him back and revoked their slave contracts as per her Zhu Lang had Sun Gong held deeply in her crutches, however now with this promotion and them shifting in to the capital city she will have a lot of chances to make changes in this household and show Zhu Lang her place.
