Chapter 2 - A god?

Bai Li felt that the address seemed quite weird. What does system administrator mean? Even with her vast area of knowledge, she couldn't figure out what this system administrator was about.

She thought that maybe it was some kind of administrator position in a company called "System"? But the name seemed quite weird.

Bai Li: "Do you need me for something?"

Bai Li had always had a much colder personality, except for rare occasions, she never smiles and there seems to always be a difficult to approach aura surrounding her.

But right now, if her former subordinates or even her colleagues saw her talking to this woman, they would immediately notice the subtle yet noticeable softer tone with which she was talking to this woman.

They would be shocked to find that the major general, whom people in the army call as the iron fortress, the one who never smiles, the god of death, all these titles seemed completely contradictory at the moment. Because more than the softer tone, it was the way her eyes gazed at this woman. The subconscious gentleness in them was truly something that she had never expressed towards anyone in her whole life.

: "Yes. I am the system administrator. I have come here with a proposal for you."

Bai Li nodded unconsciously and said,

"What is it?"

At this moment, the woman said something that truly shook her to her core. It was something that she has not told anyone except for the doctors who diagnosed her.

:"You don't have long left to live. Your brain tumor is spreading at a faster rate and with the delayed treatment, you're likely to live at most another year. I know that the reason for your retirement from the army isn't because of some injury but because of this."

Bai Li's hand holding the wine glass trembled as she stared wide eyed at the woman before her. This was something that wasn't supposed to be known to anyone else.

At this moment, she immediately became on guard against this mysterious woman. Even though she instinctively felt that the woman before her meant no harm but as a veteran soldier, as someone with a very high political and military power, there are far too many people and organizations in this world who are always looking for even a single flaw within her and to kill her. They are like vultures, waiting for the moment she shows some weakness to grab hold of her and probably extract some core secrets from her. This is also one of the reasons she chose to retire early, almost at the peak of her career because of this bloody disease.

Even though Bai Li didn't feel this way towards the woman before her, she was still cautious.

Her right hand slowly grabbed hold of the gun hanging on her waist, inside her clothes as she asked but this time, with a much colder voice,

"Who are you? What do you want?"

As she asked this question, The woman before her seemed to smile slightly as she said,

"There's no need to be on guard against men. First of all, why don't you take a look around your surroundings. Isn't it too quiet here?"

At the mention of her words, Bai Li suddenly seemed to realize something. Why is it so quiet here? Isn't this the banquet hall? Why can't she hear the music? The chatter among her subordinates? The laughter? The clinking of wine glasses?

She slowly turned her head around and the moment she took a look around herself, she was absolutely shocked to her core.

Even though her mental fortitude, honed through years in the battlefield and the deadliest of missions, honed through the countless mind games against her competitors, Bai Li still felt as if she was dreaming at the moment.

Because her entire surrounding was still. Like frozen in place as if time itself had stopped. She could see the people standing still in their places with different expressions on their faces. Their hands are still holding the wine glasses in different postures. The dancing couples standing still in the middle of their dancing posture, looking quite comical. She could even see one of the guests falling down but his entire body was stopped in mid air with the shocked expression still on his face. The wine glass had fallen to the ground and broken into countless pieces but the pieces were also stopped in the mid air, even the wine droplets had stopped in mid air! The entire scene was so magical and out of this world that it took Bai Li a long time to come to her senses.

At this point, she turned her head back to the woman who was looking at her with a gentle gaze in her eyes, not at all like that of a stranger but of someone who should be extremely close to her.

Bai Li: "Are….. you a god?"

That was the only explanation Bai Li could give herself to actually comprehend the situation she was in. Even though she never believed in god, she did think that there must be some higher being in this world who are capable of feats unimaginable to humans. And she had no other way to address them but to call them gods.

At her words, the woman suddenly laughed. Her voice was pleasant as it rang in Bai Li's ears. She said,

"Well, you could call me that. Technically I am what you humans would call a god."

"Anyway, are you ready to hear my proposal now?"

Bai Li heard her and unconsciously nodded. If she was truly a god or someone with the power to pull off this unimaginable feat, then what choice does she have to not listen to her.

The woman seemed to know what she was thinking and said in a gentle tone,

"Don't worry, I'm not here to hurt you. I am here to give you a second chance at life. I am here to give you a chance to live normally without this deadly disease affecting your body."

As Bai Li heard her words, something within her seemed to shift. The words "A chance to live normally" immediately shook her heart.

She grew serious as she now listened to her properly with a certain hope in her heart which she herself didn't notice.

: "What do you mean?"

The woman said,

"It means exactly what you think. Even though you may have convinced yourself in your heart that you accept your fate, that you accept the fact that your brain tumor would kill you in a year at best. But I know that you don't accept it. You don't want to accept it. You have achieved so much in your life, from nothing to being the major general, leading thousands under your command, having the power to do something meaningful but suddenly, a disease from god knows where comes and takes away your future, your potential, your life, your blooming career, everything, How could you just accept it. Most of all, you don't want to die, do you?"

As Bai Li listened to her, her entire body seemed to tremble slightly. She felt as if there was no secret of hers that could be concealed from this woman's eyes.

Even the deepest and most suppressed feeling in her heart was bared out before her.

Yes, she didn't want to die. Why would she? She could accept herself dying under gunfire in the battlefields but because of a damn disease? That is not acceptable.

She could not accept it.

Suddenly raising her head, Bai Li looked deeply at the woman before her. Even though she could not see her face, she could see the subtle smile under her mask.

Bai Li: "Tell me, what's this proposal about? What do I have to do?"

Bai Li didn't think that she could just get a second chance at life without giving anything in return. That's not how the world works. To get something, she must give something of equal value. There must be something this woman needs her for.

The woman smiled as she gazed directly into her eyes and said,

"I can heal the disease in your body and let you live normally without any problem. In fact, I will make your body far stronger and superior compared to humans. But you would have to completely give up your life in this world."

Bai Li was confused. She asked,

"What do you mean, give up my life in this world?"

: "It means that you can live a normal life with a healthy body but not in this world."

Bai Li nodded at her words. She seemed to understand some things and said,

"Then, will I be transmigrated into a different world, like in those novels?"

The woman smiled and said,

"Yes. You see. There's a world out there in this universe, a world inside of a book to be specific. That world was supposed to exist just in the words of a book but somehow, the female protagonist of that book awakened consciousness and the world which was just ink and words gained it's own consciousness and became a real, existing world. It's quite complicated. Anyway, now that world is still in danger. Because the world may have become real but it still is following the trajectory of what's written in the book and according the future, the female protagonist would end up completely destroying the world and you know, if a living breathing, newly originated world gets destroyed, it would cause a very bad impact on the universe and I do not want that."

Hello >.< How are you guys liking this so far? I hope you guys like my novel and do save it in your library. Anyway, below is another novel that I am writing. Do check it out guys ^-^

The female marshal's way of coaxing her wife. [GL]

Synopsis: A legendary Marshal-scientist top × a cold, dazzling, and secretly tender female protagonist bottom Ji Yu had conquered galaxies, commanded armies, and invented technologies that rewrote the future. She was the Interstellar Empire's pride—its youngest Marshal, its brightest scientist, its unstoppable Alpha. And then the Zerg's ultimate weapon struck her soul. Her body could be saved. Her spirit? Splintering by the second. Her last gamble was her own invention: the Mirror World, a machine that could repair a broken soul by sending it to live inside the worlds of human novels. From swashbuckling epics to ridiculous campus romances, every story was a chance for healing. She just hadn't expected to wake up in a luxury hotel, with a bubbly little system named Zhangli announcing: "Host! Congratulations! You've officially entered your first story world~!" Ji Yu braced herself. Trashy CEO dramas, brainless campus romances, overbearing male leads—she had loaded thousands of them into the database for "completeness," even though she personally couldn't stand them. But then—she saw her. The same woman, across every world. A pirate queen with stormy eyes. A rebellious princess in need of an ally. A gentle florist with a secret smile. Cold, radiant, unforgettable. Always meant to be someone else's heroine. Not anymore. Ji Yu wasn't here to follow some novel's outline. She wasn't here to prop up cardboard-cutout male leads. She was here to live, to love, to heal—and she knew exactly who she wanted at her side. The result? Male leads: irrelevant. Plots: cheerfully demolished. Systems: collectively screaming. Zhangli: "Host, you're supposed to be resting your soul, not speedrunning seductions!!" Ji Yu: "Healing requires passion. This is science." Other systems: "…Is anyone else losing their female protagonists, or is it just me?" And yet, no matter the setting, the script, or the mask she wore, Ji Yu could sense it—this woman was the same soul, hidden behind countless guises. Her true identity remained veiled, mysterious, as if the Mirror World itself was guarding a secret meant only for Ji Yu to uncover. But what Ji Yu felt for her wasn't mere attraction. It was devotion vast as the stars she once commanded, fierce as the battles she had fought, enduring as the soul she was trying to mend. Across every world, every life, every story, Ji Yu's love was the constant—an unshakable force that bent fates, shattered narratives, and burned brighter than any destiny the Mirror World could script. One thing's certain: Ji Yu might be a soul in recovery, but she's never been more alive.
