Chapter 7 - Chapter 7. Whispers in the Dark

As Toya's eyes slid open, he saw nothing but darkness. There was no light, nothing to see. He just laid there on his back. He didn't remember getting here. The last thing he remembered was the dead bodies of his family. He turned and nearly barfed. Tears filling his eyes. He remembered how his family had gotten killed in front of him, without being able to do anything. Is this where you go when you die? He though darkly. He didn't even bother getting up. Even if he wasn't dead why keep on going. He just laid there welcoming the darkness as an old friend. He was ready to just give up. But he remembered something in the back of his mind. He remembered the promises to his father and little sister. No, he couldn't die. He forced himself up. He looked around but there were nothing but darkness.

"Hey, Toya" a silent voice echoed. Toya turned but there was nothing. What was that? He thought. Like reading his mind the voice spoke again.

"Oh, have you already forgotten about me? We meet just a couple of days ago." The voice was neither friendly nor threatening. But still Toya couldn't shake the feeling that this voice wasn't normal. He had so many question but he forced himself to remain calm.

He calmly asked "who are you? Show yourself." He didn't know whatever he meant the last thing as a request or an order but either was it seemed to work. The darkness around him shifted, forming a massive figure. The figure was like it didn't have a steady appearance. It shifted a little like a flame in the wind. He couldn't see any of its other appearance except for the glowing eyes. Then he remembered. He had seen that - thing - before. In his nightmare not long ago. He couldn't believe his eyes what was that thing doing here. How could it be here? How could a thing like that even exist? It shouldn't even exist.

"You really don't know anything do you?" its voice echoed.

"What do you mean? I am dead, aren't I?" he said it in a carefree tone, but the shadow just laughed. He laughed and laughed and laughed. Toya getting annoyed said: "What's so funny?!"

The shadow chuckled "oh you are not dead. You are just unconscious right now." Toya's eyes widened how couldn't he be dead. Had the soldiers taken pity on him and let him live?

"You don't remember? Oh well no matter you will soon enough." The shadow said like he again knew what he was thinking.

Toya let out a sigh and repeated one of his other questions "Who are you?" His voice was cold, colder than ever before.

"I'm a person who can help you gain all the power you wish for. Enough power to never lose." It said it with such a confidence that basically made you believe every word. Toya's eyes glimmed with energy. Could I really gain power he thought. But then a memory appeared in his mind. It was on the day he had overheard his father's and the major's conversation. He remembered what his father had told him no one will just give you something you have to find it out on your own.

"I don't believe a word that comes out of your mouth. And I don't want anything to do with you." He said even though right now all he wanted was to get stronger, stronger and stronger.

The glowing eyes of the shadow turned sharp and ice cold. Light began to fill the room and the shadow slowly sank. "We will meet again, Toya. And when we do, you will beg for my help" its voice chilling as the warning slowly echoed away and it disappeared.
