Chapter 35 — Good News at Home

Suzune arrived home just as the evening light softened the sky. After placing her keys down, she exhaled quietly, her mind still replaying the rooftop scene—the pool, the wind, and Ayanokoji's calm voice.

Before she could retreat to her room, her mother appeared from the kitchen, eyes sharp with curiosity.

"So?" she asked with a gentle smile.

"Did Mr. Ayanokoji like the cookies?"

Suzune paused for a moment, then nodded.

"Yes. He said they were good."

Her mother's face brightened instantly, as if that single sentence was more than enough.

"I knew it," she said proudly. "Homemade gifts always carry sincerity."

Before Suzune could reply, her phone buzzed in her hand.

Manabu.

She answered immediately.

"Big brother?"

Manabu's voice came through, steady but unmistakably happy.

"Akane agreed."

Suzune's eyes widened.

"…She did?"

"Yes."

A smile bloomed on her face.

"Congratulations, brother."

The moment her mother heard those words, she froze—then suddenly squealed in happiness.

"She agreed?!"

Without warning, she rushed over and hugged Suzune tightly.

"I'm going to be a mother-in-law soon!"

Suzune laughed softly and returned the hug.

"And I'll be a sister-in-law."

From the phone, Manabu sighed lightly.

"We'll talk later. I'm still with her."

"Alright," Suzune replied. "Talk to you later."

The call ended.

Her mother didn't let go immediately, holding Suzune as if afraid the happiness might vanish.

"I want to meet her soon," she said excitedly.

"When are you going to introduce her to us?"

Suzune smiled, feeling the warmth fill the house.

"Soon. I'm sure brother will arrange it."

As they finally pulled apart, Suzune glanced at her phone once more.

So many things were changing.

And somehow, she felt this was only the beginning.
