Chapter 88 - Chapter 88: Am I What? Overload

Birthday — Beach City

"🎶 Happy birthday to you... happy birthday to you... 🎶"

The house was packed.

Gems.

Humans.

Laughter.

Noise.

Life.

Steven stood right in the middle of it all, a genuine smile on his face as everyone finished singing.

"🎶 Happy birthday, dear Steven... 🎶"

"🎶 Happy birthday to you! 🎶"

Cheers.

Whistles.

Shouts.

"Take a bite! Take a bite!" several voices chimed in.

Amethyst was the first one to yell it out.

"TAKE A BITE!"

"Amethyst..." Steven said, already knowing what was coming.

"NO EXCUSES!"

Garnet just crossed her arms with a small smile.

"It's tradition."

Pearl sighed.

"Could we... maybe not push him this time?"

"Push him," Lapis said from behind, completely stone-faced.

Spinel raised her hand.

"I vote for pushing him."

Steven threw his hands up.

"Okay, okay, calm down—"

Too late.

Amethyst and a couple of Rubies grabbed him.

"ONE!"

"TWO!"

"THREE!"

PLOP.

Right in the face.

Cake everywhere.

Silence.

Just for a second.

—

Steven lifted his head slowly.

Covered in frosting.

Hair full of cake.

He looked forward.

Deadpan.

...

And burst out laughing.

Loud.

Real.

Contagious.

—

Everyone laughed along.

—

Connie walked over, wiping some of it off his face with her fingers.

"You look amazing," she said, holding back a laugh.

"Thanks, exactly what I was going for," Steven replied.

Greg appeared from behind, beer in hand.

"Now that's how you celebrate, son."

"Right, trauma and cake."

"Exactly."

—

Lapis grabbed a piece of cake.

Threw it at Steven.

Hit him right in the shoulder.

Silence.

Steven looked at her.

Lapis looked right back.

—

"...War," Steven declared.

—

Five seconds later—

Chaos.

Cake flying everywhere.

Rubies hurling themselves at each other.

Amethyst shapeshifting to dodge.

Peridot screaming because someone touched her slice.

Spinel spinning around with two plates like they were weapons.

Greg laughing hysterically while throwing his own handfuls.

Pearl desperately trying to stop the madness.

Failing miserably.

—

Garnet watching it all.

Smiling.

—

In the middle of the storm—

Steven.

Laughing.

Free.

—

After a while, everything settled down.

The house was an absolute wreck.

Everyone collapsed on the floor.

Exhausted.

—

Steven looked around.

At everyone.

At his people.

At his family.

—

And smiled.

"Thanks... for coming."

"Always, Stevo," Greg said.

"Duh," Amethyst added.

"It is statistically mandatory," Peridot said.

"We love you," Connie whispered, leaning against him.

—

Steven closed his eyes for a moment.

Soaking it in.

—

Because for once...

There was no war.

There were no impossible choices.

—

Just...

A birthday. 🎂

The End.

Author's Note:

I simply couldn't leave this story just like that. This was the story that inspired me to start writing here on Wattpad and Webnovel.

Thank you to everyone who supported me throughout the writing of this fanfic. The days I took long to upload chapters were because of drafting, but now... who cares, right?

Thank you for the Power Stones. Thank you for the constant support you've always given—and will keep giving—to this story.

This marks the conclusion of "Steven Universe: I'm What?, Overload".

Thank you all so much.

Now I'll be focusing on my other stories, like the Silica one or the MHA one. Seriously, thank you all.

If you want an epilogue for this story, let's hit 100 stars. A lot? Maybe. For now, I'm only asking for it on Wattpad.

Anyone on Webnovel who wants the epilogue will have to head over to leave their stars on this final chapter.

With nothing left to say...

Goodbye! 👋
