Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Honorary Angel System

Chapter 3: Honorary Angel System.

I huffed, feeling exhausted yet I still answered the call because I knew if I didn't, I wouldn't get a single wink of sleep. Mom always had a nack for messing with me whenever I ignored her, honestly, she was even more troublesome than dad in these types of situations.

" Hey, mom. It's been awhile." I managed to say through gritted teeth.

" So you finally decided to pick up? Well that's a surprise. I thought you would feign ignorant like you always did."

' Honestly, I wish it were that easy...'

" Of course not mom, what are you talking about. Why would I ignore my beautiful mother." I replied back, feigning ignorance.

Thankfully, my mom wasn't interested in beating around the bush this time around, much to my satisfaction.

" So... Your father and i–"

" No..." I replied without giving it much thought.

" But you haven't even let me finish."

" If it has anything to do with a he or she or even a non binary....I AM NOT INTERESTED."

" Tsk, see what I told you. I warned you it wouldn't work." My eyelids twitched when I heard my father's displeased voice in the background.

" Hey dad...." I greeted even though the only thing I got in reply was grumbling sounds. Hearing them only made me chuckle though.

" Sweetheart, would you please stop punishing your father and I. Why don't you stop this little independence of yours and come home already." My mother pleaded yet a sneer couldn't help creeping onto my face.

" And let the both of you marry me off to some egoistic stranger? Not a chance..."

" But sweetie, your almost 30, Don't you think it's finally time you settled down."

" Mom, I'm still as vigorous as I'll ever be. I don't need you and Dad to keep setting me up with those Buffoons. Just give me time and I promise I'll be back."

" How long! How long do you intend to keep up with this farce, Maple–" My Dad seemed pretty riled up.

" About 5 more years?" I replied with a light giggle, hearing his exasperated voice from over the phone only made me smile even more.

" Okay mom, I'll call you two later ok. Love you, bye." I said cutting the call before anyone of them could say anything.

Done, I tossed my phone aside, before resuming my lay'd back posture, staring at my bleak ceiling only to sigh from time to time.

I understood that they only meant the best for me, even my dad who seemed frustrated and angry was actually nothing but a big softie when it came down to it. The fact that they didn't continue to annoy me with calls was evidence enough already.

' If I'm ever going back, it has to be when I'm able to stand on my own two feet...' I tried hyping myself. My mother and father weren't struggling with money, honestly my family was pretty well off, the reason I was staying away from home wasn't because I didn't want to be a burden but because I simply wanted to prove one thing.

' I'll prove to that bastard that i don't need anyone to rely on.' I nodded to myself before sitting up straight on my bed.

" Before that though, I need to figure out how I'm going to pay for next months grocery shopping." I sighed. But all of a sudden, a strange transparent panel emerged Infront of my eyes with golden feather like motifs.

[Congratulations you've been blessed]

[Acquired the Honorary Angel System]

[Be glad for you've been chosen as an honorary angel]

[Please call out the words status window to view your status]

' And what on earth is this supposed to be?' Contrary to most, I frowned at the panel, scrutinizing it with my gaze, wondering what on earth it was.

Well it didn't look scary to the point that I would've screamed in surprise, nor did it look all that awe inspiring that I would've cried tears of joy at the sight. Honestly, I was far more concerned with what was written the top of the panel.

' Honorary Angel?' I was completely confused. Still skeptical, I tried touching it yet my hands phased right through, startling me a little.

" Is this thing broken?" I wondered to myself.

" Of all the things to call me, I don't think angel is an option." I said, waving my hand through the screen yet it kept phasing right through.

[Please call out the words status window]

The panel changed again. Judging by the words on it, I figured it was autonomous or at least sentient.

" And what if I don't want to say that? Why should I trust a strange projection that suddenly popped up in my room."

[I apologize if my appearance startled you, but you really need to comply with what I'm telling you.]

" I'm afraid that's a no for me. I'm not doing anything until you tell me what you are and don't skip on the details."

" What are you, who made you? And who sent you?

[I'm afraid I can't complete your request, telling you would instead harm you]

" Harm me? Well that's a good reason not to comply now isn't it."

[PLEASE JUST SAY THE WORDS STATUS WINDOW!]

I stiffened when the panel almost slammed into my face, startling me for the first time today.

[Forgive me. I didn't mean to lose my temper.]

[Now will you please say the words status window.]

" Alright... Alright."

" But you better tell me what all this is about afterwards." I mumbled beneath my breath before complying.

" Status Window." I stared as the words on the panel changed once more.
