Chapter 9 - A Journey of Renewal

What's wrong with Cedric? Why did he kidnap me into this room and take off his pants?

Nikolai, please, where are you! I'm so scared right now.

"What's wrong, my lady? Why are you crying?"

"Don't you dare do anything dirty to me! If Nikolai finds out, he'll kill you."

"I don't care. My power is far greater than any Wolfenstein pack member, including Nikolai."

His dirty, disgusting hand touched my cheek and gently wiped away my tears. But I was so disgusted with this person that I slapped his face as hard as I could.

"You are such a bitch! How dare you slap me. Take this!"

He slapped me back, bruising my cheek. He strangled me on the bed as he brought his face full of wolf-like fangs closer.

"Please Cedric, please let me go. I'm begging you."

But as if not hearing all my cries and tears, he brought his face even closer.

Oh no! I don't want to kiss this filthy monster.

Somebody help me!

Just as his lips were about to touch mine, suddenly from behind the door a burly hand smashed a hole in the door. It was a burly, muscular hand filled with rage. From behind the hole, I saw wolf-like blue eyes full of burning rage. Nikolai burst through the hotel room door as if the wooden door was made of paper.

Seeing Cedric with no pants strangling me on the bed, my husband did nothing. But he was breathing very heavily with dew coming out of his mouth. His eyes glowed in the dark night.

" Take your filthy hands off my wife."

Cedric chuckled, "If I don't, what are you gonna do about it?"

In the blink of an eye, Nikolai had gripped Cedric's hand with all his might digging his long werewolf-style nails into the flesh of Cedric's hand. The man still refused to let me go.

"I'll say it again: let go of your hand, or there will be trouble."

"You dare attack me? If The Great Father finds out you attacked me, you'll all go to prison again."

Suddenly, Nikolai's mouth popped out four large fangs protruding from his mouth and bit Cedric's hand until it was torn off. I broke free from his chokehold with a spray of blood from his severed hand spraying across the bed and floor. Cedric screamed in pain, unable to stop the bleeding in his hand.

"Damn you Nikolai! How dare you cut off my hand! You won't get away with this. I will definitely pay you back."

Before Cedric could say more, Nikolai had already punched him in the face, splitting his lip and knocking out two front teeth. The toothless man instantly stopped talking.

This time it was Nikolai who strangled Cedric's body that drooped helplessly in the air, "I warned you. You're lucky I didn't kill you this time. I've been holding a grudge against you for a very long time, but I've been holding back. And now your actions have crossed the line. Speak one more time, and it will be your head that I cut off next."

In the grip of Nikolai's claws on his neck, Cedric cried, wanting to say a thousand words but unable to, he ended up sobbing like a little baby. His face was hideous at the moment. Soon he lost consciousness from losing too much blood.

The person being strangled was literally speechless. Nikolai threw his body on the floor like a dirty, disgusting thing.

"Are you okay Mei?"

I burst into tears as soon as I realized that what I had just gone through was truly a horrific event. I rushed to hug my husband's warm body with tears in my eyes.

"Thank you for saving me. I was so scared. If you had been late, I don't know what would have happened to me."

Nikolai tried to maintain his usual tough, emotionless figure, but somehow he suddenly hugged me even tighter with tears also starting to fall down my forehead.

"I'm sorry Mei, if only I could have paid more attention to you instead of making love to another woman, you wouldn't have had to go through something like this. This is all my fault."

"You're so mean. I am your wife, but you blatantly call another woman into your room. That's so mean of you. I've endured this pain for so long, but you seem to ignore it as if I don't exist. Is this how you treat your wife?"

"I'm sorry, I was really stupid to hurt you all the time."

"I'm furious with you. Absolutely furious!"

Soon all the Wolfenstein pack members including Clara suddenly came and saw us embracing on the bloodied bed. Everyone was dumbfounded at this unusual sight.

Nikolai quickly reverted to his usual cold demeanor. "Mei, I'm sorry, but you have to release the embrace. We need to explain everything to everyone."

"No! I don't want to let you go. Please, just let me hold you a little longer. I'm still so scared."

Nerfi replied, "Is Mei Ling alright?"

"I believe she's deeply shaken by what happened. She hasn't released me since I pulled her out of danger."

"I think this should serve as a lesson for you, Nikolai. You need to prioritize Mei Ling over other women. If you keep neglecting her as your lawful wife, you might end up losing her for real one day."

"I understand now. I've been foolish to reject the presence of this innocent woman. Somehow, I forgot that Helen's soul had returned to me. Yet, I continue to reject her. I'm truly ashamed of myself."

Giovani advised, "You should stay with her tonight until morning to ensure her safety. Who knows if other members of the Amour pack will seek revenge for causing their leader to be on the brink like this."

"Alright then."

"Remember, just keep watch over her. Don't do anything you might regret."

"No need to tell me, I already know."

Suddenly, Nikolai swept me away from the scene and carried me to our room along with Clara.

Once there, my husband gently placed me on the bed. Truthfully, I was reluctant to let go of him. But it seemed Nikolai left to fetch warm water and sweet treats to ease the shock I was experiencing. He and Clara sat beside me, watching as I trembled slightly, still haunted by the terrifying ordeal earlier.

I pleaded with my husband, gazing into his eyes. "I know you still resent the presence of the Moon Goddess within me. But please, Nikolai, just for tonight, stay with me. Don't leave me alone again. I beg of you."

"Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. Right now, I don't feel the Moon Goddess in you at all. Instead, I feel emotions I thought were lost long ago. Your smile, when I look closely, reminds me of Helen's, doesn't it, Clara?"

"It really does," Clara chimed in softly, her own smile warm and reassuring.

Her sweet gesture filled me with gratitude. "Thank you, Clara. Your words mean so much to me."

"Look at that smile! It's just like my mother's used to be. I'm begging you, promise me you'll smile like that more often from now on. I adore seeing it," Clara urged gently.

"I'll do my best."

Nikolai joined us on the bed, Clara and I nestled against him. His touch was comforting, his presence reassuring.

"Can I ask you something?" Nikolai's voice was tender.

"Of course, what is it?"

"Where did you learn to cook? The breakfast you made yesterday was beyond delicious. It's the best meal I've ever had, even compared to everything at this hotel."

"You're teasing me now! Why didn't you tell me that yesterday? I was hoping you'd say something."

"I'm sorry. I should've been more honest about how much I appreciate you."

"It's okay. I'm sorry too. I haven't fully been the wife you deserve or taken care of you as I should. So far, it's been just us enjoying each other's company like this."

"Don't apologize. I'm just grateful for every moment we have alone together."

In Nikolai's warm embrace that night, I felt cherished and loved in a way I hadn't felt in a long time. It was like the warmth of a father's love for his daughter, but more intimate. Without realizing it, I drifted into a peaceful sleep, safe and content in his arms.

That night marked our first truly romantic evening as husband and wife.
