"Good mor…"

"Yes, yes. Good morning. But please, don't chat," the mage said flatly. "Conversation slows the mind. Today you require all of yours."

That was that.

Verona swallowed any lingering politeness and gave a faint nod. Ardine didn't even acknowledge it. She simply lifted her hand, and the faint shimmer of a sound barrier rippled around them.

No one outside would hear a thing.

"Is it… dangerous?" Verona finally asked, and because Ardine didn't immediately snap again, she took it as permission to speak.

Ardine exhaled through her nose. "Everything is dangerous for someone in your condition. Even sleeping. But this lesson will not kill you, so long as you do not, how do I say this, behave stupidly."

Comforting. Sort of.

Ardine moved to stand in front of Verona, arms folded. "We begin with theory."
