Blanche's POV
Amara and I kept talking until way past 1 a.m., finally deciding we should try to get some rest.
Right as we were about to fall asleep, a loudspeaker crackled to life downstairs, destroying the quiet night.
Someone bellowed through the speaker twice, the sound bouncing off the buildings.
That's when it hit me—I started recognizing the voice behind that damn loudspeaker.
Amara figured it out before I did, though.
One shout was all it took for Amara to know it was Marquis.
The neighborhood had been dead silent at this hour until Marquis's stunt broke the peace—windows lit up in every apartment building around us.
Some fed-up residents started shouting from their windows: "Have you lost your mind? What kind of lunatic screams like that in the middle of the night?"
More voices joined in: "Hey! If you're gonna go crazy, at least do it during the day!"
