Blanche's POV
Zain and I sat without speaking, an unsettling quiet filling the private room.
Since moments alone with him were so rare, I decided to take my shot. "Zain, can we talk?"
I wasn't trying to grovel—I just wanted to know if he'd even bother with a conversation. If not, I wouldn't waste my breath.
Zain looked at me with that cool, unbothered expression. After a beat, he said, "What do you want to talk about?"
I cut straight to it. "Did you sabotage Quinton and Amber at work?"
Zain didn't hesitate. "Yeah, that was me."
I'd suspected as much, but hearing him confirm it still twisted something painful in my chest.
I met his eyes stubbornly. "Why?"
Zain looked away, obviously not planning to explain. "Just because," he said.
I couldn't figure out what was going through his head. Fighting back my anger, I pressed, "What exactly do you want from me?"
Zain went quiet for a long moment. Finally, he looked back at me. "Carry needs you."
