Blanche's POV
That afternoon, I walked out of the hospital after finishing my shift and bumped into Demetrius.
He looked like he'd been waiting for me, his face lighting up the moment he spotted me.
When I got closer, Demetrius's voice was soft. "There's a class reunion tonight. You interested?"
I was ready to say no—Oswald was still hospitalized, after all.
But Zain's voice cut through from behind me before I could respond. "Blanche, Grandpa's already expecting us."
I spun around and saw Zain's car sitting in the hospital parking lot, just a short distance from where Demetrius and I stood.
Zain stayed put in the driver's seat, just rolling his window down to call out to me.
I gave Demetrius an apologetic glance. "Sorry, Demetrius. I've got plans today. Rain check?"
Demetrius never pushed—it wasn't his style.
Disappointment flickered across his face, but he kept it brief.
He just smiled and nodded. "Sure thing. I'll try asking again another time."
