Blanche’s POV
Watching Carry’s temperature spike so high left Zain and me riddled with worry.
The nurse wore a defeated expression. “I’ll check with the doctor about our options.”
I gave her a quick nod, trusting her to handle it.
Zain dropped into the chair beside me, his concerned eyes fixed on Carry.
A few minutes passed before the nurse came back, recommending we hold off a bit longer to see if Carry’s fever might break on its own.
Being a doctor myself, I knew fevers didn’t just vanish in seconds.
I’ll monitor her again in a while, I decided silently.
Carry seemed alert enough that we didn’t need to panic just yet.
Zain kept stroking Carry’s cheek tenderly, clearly heartbroken seeing her like this.
Though Carry’s complexion was ghostly white, she still managed a brave smile for Zain. “Dad, I’m okay, really.”
Her words hit me like a punch to the gut, and tears started pouring down my cheeks before I could stop them.
