It was already 2 AM, and I knew there were only two reasons Carry would call me at this hour: either she wasn't feeling well, or Zain and Joanna weren't around.

Tonight, it was the latter. Joanna had been injured, and Zain had taken her to the hospital.

Which meant, this time, Carry had no one to keep her company.

After I laid out the facts, I hung up without caring what Heidi or Carry thought of me.

On the other end, Heidi was still holding the phone, completely stunned, when she heard the beeping sound of the call ending.

In Heidi's memory, Blanche had always been so good to Zain and Carry, looking after them and fussing over every little thing.

But now, everything had changed.

Heidi understood perfectly why, and she never blamed Blanche for it.

Honestly, with a husband and kid like that, no one would want to stay.

But Heidi was just a servant at Blissfield Villa, so it wasn't her place to say anything.
