Chapter 13 - A Desperate Search

Emma's hands were shaking as she dialed Max's number again. She'd tried calling him multiple times, but he hadn't responded. She was starting to feel desperate.

As she waited for the call to connect, Emma's mind was racing with thoughts. What if Max didn't want to know about the baby? What if he wasn't interested in being a part of their child's life?

The call went straight to voicemail, and Emma felt a lump form in her throat. She took a deep breath and left a message. "Max, it's Emma. We need to talk. It's urgent. Please call me back."

Emma waited anxiously for a response, but the hours ticked by, and there was nothing. She decided to take matters into her own hands and try to find Max.

She started by searching for him on social media, but his profiles were private. She tried searching for his photography business, but there was no contact information online.

As the sun began to set, Emma felt a sense of hopelessness wash over her. She had no idea how to find Max, and she was starting to feel like she was running out of options.

Just as she was about to give up, Emma remembered that Max had mentioned a photography studio in Venice. She quickly searched for photography studios in the area and got lucky – there was one studio that matched the name Max had mentioned.

Emma's heart was racing as she dialed the number. A friendly voice answered, and Emma asked to speak to Max. The voice on the other end hesitated before responding.

"I'm not sure if he's available. Can I take a message?"

Emma took a deep breath. "Please, it's urgent. I'm...I'm pregnant, and I need to speak to him."

There was a pause on the other end, and for a moment, Emma wondered if she'd lost the connection.

"Hold on," the voice said finally. "I'll get him."

Emma's heart was pounding as she waited for Max to come to the phone. What would he say? Would he be angry or supportive?

As she waited, Emma couldn't help but wonder what the future held for her and her unborn child.
