Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Defective Goods

Chapter 42: Defective Goods

Crack crack

As soon as Yao Yan entered the spatial storm, the space energy surrounding him was violently struck. The storm outside surged in, colliding and compressing with the protective force, emitting harsh screeches. Intertwining forces tore at one another, forming black spatial rifts all around. The terrifying scene made every muscle in his body tense. But what shocked him the most—was that the teleportation jade shard floating ahead actually began to wobble.

Hun Xuzi gave me junk?!

Yao Yan cursed inwardly, quickly pulling out Hun Xuzi's communication token from his storage ring and attempting to contact him via soul force—only to find there was no response at all!

"F*ck!"

He couldn't hold it in anymore and swore aloud.

Yao Yan had never expected Hun Xuzi to be this unreliable. This thing wasn't a teleportation jade—it was a suicide jade. And this communication token? It had to be one-way only!

In truth, he'd wronged Hun Xuzi. The teleportation jade had been crafted with a Dou Zun's capabilities. If it had been made with Dou Sheng-level spatial power, the fluctuations would have been far too obvious. Even Yao Nong's self-destruction wouldn't have covered the traces—and it could have alerted the Yao Clan's Dou Shengs.

That would have complicated a simple matter. Hun Xuzi had no desire to clash with Yao Clan Dou Shengs or escalate things into a conflict between clans.

As for the communication token—unfortunately, the overlapping spatial forces and tearing energy had completely severed its connection to the outside world. Unless Yao Yan could break through the storm himself, he was cut off.

He was simply too lucky—lucky enough to run into a spatial storm, which formed randomly and without warning.

Ying ying!

Compared to Yao Yan's rising panic, Ling'er, startled awake by his foul language, was in a great mood. Her watery eyes sparkled with curiosity at the shimmering chaos around them. Compared to the pitch-black void before, this dazzling scene was far more interesting.

But it didn't last long.

As the space around them grew more unstable and colors twisted unnaturally, she quickly sensed something was wrong. She covered her big ears with her paws and burrowed into Yao Yan's chest.

Faced with this situation—

Yao Yan gradually calmed down. Panicking was useless. If the jade shard truly gave out, he would just have to endure the storm himself. With his Indestructible Vajra Body having reached the second level, he should be able to barely withstand the spatial destruction.

With that thought, he steadied his breath, though he still tightly gripped the communication token, trying repeatedly to contact Hun Xuzi.

As the storm raged, the jade shard flickered uncontrollably. Its spatial energy grew unstable. Outside energy began to leak in, bringing with it an overwhelming suction that could tear everything apart. Fortunately, Yao Yan's body was incredibly resilient—he withstood it.

Still, he crouched down with Ling'er in his arms, shielding her while activating his Indestructible Vajra Body. His body glowed with a dense bronze hue, occasionally flashing with a silvery sheen—signs of the second level.

Nestled safely in his arms, Ling'er blinked her green eyes and no longer seemed afraid. Her gaze toward Yao Yan softened with unfamiliar emotion.

Crack!

After about fifteen minutes, the jade shard reached its limit. It shattered.

The spatial storm flooded in, violently tearing at Yao Yan's body. His previously unshakable flesh was instantly torn to shreds—his skin and muscles sliced open.

Fortunately, his bones remained unyielding, even glowing faintly with jade light, resisting the invasion of the storm.

At the same time, tremendous vitality surged within his body, constantly repairing the damage—matching the destruction blow for blow.

But for Yao Yan, it felt like enduring death by a thousand cuts. Cold sweat poured from his face, but his gaze remained calm. He even used the pain to drive his cultivation—circulating the Vajra Body technique to refine himself through the storm, all while cursing Hun Xuzi's entire family lineage.

From his mother to his grandmother… then to his father… and finally even the Soul Heaven Emperor…

Who knew how long passed.

Yao Yan's strength was nearly depleted, his consciousness fading. In a daze, he felt the jade completely disintegrate.

And just as it did—a spatial gate opened and swallowed him whole, consuming the last threads of energy it had left.

Once he disappeared, the area returned to lifeless stillness—except for the rampaging storm, which continued to roar, refusing to fade.

Several days later—

At the storm's core, a figure emerged from a jade token. Black flame swirled around him, devouring all nearby spatial energy.

"A spatial storm?!"

Hun Xuzi's eyes flashed with surprise as he scanned the chaotic surroundings.

He had assumed Yao Yan would have arrived in the Black-Corner Region by now, ready to be placed in a Soul Hall branch for some worldly experience—perhaps even to glimpse the harsh reality of the Dou Qi Continent. But unexpectedly, the boy had gone missing. Even the communication token had been lost in the storm.

In the next moment—

A portion of space was forcefully torn open. Hun Xuzi's true body stepped out. His terrifying aura made the raging storm freeze in place. From his brow, soul force surged, sweeping across the storm until it latched onto a familiar spatial signature.

"A spatial gate was triggered. Seems no one interfered… unfortunately, I can't pinpoint its exit. But it's near the Black-Corner Region—I'll have the Soul Hall branch search that area…"

His gaze flickered as he muttered to himself.

As for whether Yao Yan survived the storm—Hun Xuzi wasn't worried. He had crafted that boy's body himself. He knew exactly how tough it was. Even this level of spatial storm wasn't enough to destroy it.

And the teleportation jade? He knew its limits too. Even when depleted, it would always trigger a last-ditch gate to send its bearer away—his final safeguard to ensure Yao Yan's survival.

The only surprise was the loss of the communication token.

Was it an accident—or intentional?

Hun Xuzi thought for a moment and then let out a chilling laugh.

It didn't matter what Yao Yan chose. His fate would never change. With multiple Dou Di bloodlines and the Devour Spirit Clan's trait, the Soul Clan was the only place in the world that would accept him. Any other clan would hunt him on sight.

He had no choice.

With that eerie laugh lingering in the air, Hun Xuzi vanished.
