Chapter 47 - Chapter 47: Her Majesty the Queen Is So Fierce

Chapter 47: Her Majesty the Queen Is So Fierce

The starry sky shimmered like dust, scattered across the deep night, highlighting the brightness and purity of the full moon.

Beneath it, the sand dunes curved under the moonlight, casting a silver glow.

The desert at night was both silent and mysterious. A campfire burned under the moon, smoke curling upward, glowing vividly in the darkness.

Yao Yan sat before the fire, staring at the flames as his thoughts drifted. The night made for a clearer mind, especially in such an atmosphere. It helped him calmly consider his future. The core of his plan was already established—what remained were the side plots.

In game terms, this was the main quest and side quests.

Main quest: Xiao Clan's Tuoshe Ancient Emperor Jade (0/1), Flame Mantra (0/1)

Side quests: Collect heavenly flames, build influence, pass on his legacy…

His gaze shifted to the young woman at his side—the younger sister of Queen Medusa. Her once-pretty face was now a charcoal-smeared mess, yet even so, her delicate features were impossible to hide. Up close, her beauty was still obvious.

Perhaps due to days of exhaustion, she had already fallen asleep, leaning against Yao Yan's shoulder, tightly clinging to his arm for security.

As the night deepened—

Yao Yan felt no sleepiness. In fact, the closer they got to the Jia Ma Empire, the more awake and slightly excited he became.

Ding~

Suddenly, the soft sound of camel bells echoed in the distance, adding an air of mystery to the quiet desert night.

Soon—

A giant beast pulling a water cart slowly approached and stopped several dozen meters away. A man leapt down from the cart and walked toward the fire, sitting without a word.

The firelight illuminated his figure.

He was a cold, stern man dressed in a thin, pale-blue combat outfit. His exposed skin was covered in scars—some of them gruesome, like they had been earned crawling back from the edge of death. He frowned at the fire and said in a cold voice, "In the Tagor Desert, lighting a campfire at night is the stupidest thing you can do. It exposes your location and makes you a target for predators."

"Are you one of them?" Yao Yan asked calmly, his expression unchanged.

Just from the man's appearance and voice, Yao Yan recognized him: Ice Emperor Hai Bodong, one of the ten strongest people in the Jia Ma Empire.

A charismatic figure from the original story—cold on the outside, warm on the inside, reclusive and unwilling to bow to anyone. Yet when it came to friends and family, he would sacrifice everything. If he gave his word, he would see it through no matter what.

"Depends. My target is her. Someone hired me to bring her back," Hai Bodong said plainly, casting a glance at the sleeping snake-woman. His voice remained emotionless.

He wasn't trying to provoke a fight. He couldn't quite see through Yao Yan's strength. To kill Da Dou Shi with ease meant the boy was at least an experienced Dou Wang, but he looked so young and radiated nothing more than Da Dou Shi aura.

More importantly, he was far too calm. Sitting by a fire in the desert at night… was he baiting something?

"Do you know who she is?" Yao Yan asked.

"Not my concern."

Hai Bodong replied coolly. A true mercenary never questions a client's purpose—only the task.

"She's related to Queen Medusa. Still want to take her?" Yao Yan smiled faintly, watching him closely, curious to see whether he'd back off.

Hai Bodong's brows furrowed deeply. That piece of information clearly caught him off guard. The payment he received was nowhere near enough to risk angering Queen Medusa. But he didn't immediately believe Yao Yan. "If she really is related to Queen Medusa, why would you dare keep her?"

Queen Medusa—beauty and danger in one. Her strength alone as a peak nine-star Dou Huang was enough to strike fear into anyone.

Hai Bodong didn't believe Yao Yan had the power to challenge her.

"If you don't believe me, then why not wait with me a little longer? If I'm right, Queen Medusa is already on her way… maybe even right behind you. Isn't that so… Your Majesty~"

Just as Yao Yan said that, his eyes shifted skyward. His voice was low, not raised above a murmur, yet carried by soul force directly into Hai Bodong's ears—and those of Queen Medusa, still a thousand meters away.

"?!"

Hai Bodong jumped to his feet. Dou Qi burst from him like a wave, sending out an icy chill that snuffed the fire. A frosty spear materialized in his hand as he stared grimly into the distance at the approaching figure.

Yao Yan remained seated, but soul force pulsed from his brow, quietly forming a protective barrier around himself and the sleeping girl holding his arm. His eyes gleamed with anticipation as he looked toward the incoming presence.

This was someone he had long been curious to meet—the Queen Medusa so vividly portrayed in the original work.

"Soul force?"

Hai Bodong also sensed the energy surrounding Yao Yan. His gaze narrowed. He was starting to regret taking this job. What was supposed to be a simple snake-woman retrieval had suddenly dragged in Queen Medusa… and this mysterious young man. His cultivation was unclear, and he used soul force—a skill typical of high-tier alchemists.

Whoosh!

A streak of blood-red light tore across the sky.

A cloaked figure appeared before them—clearly a powerful member of the snake-people race. A pair of blood-red Dou Qi wings flared behind her, and a white mask concealed her face. A small section of her bewitching violet snake tail peeked out from under the cloak. Its casual sway exuded an indescribable allure.

Even just her tail had a mesmerizing effect.

Queen Medusa doesn't even need undergarments… Yao Yan thought to himself as he looked up, the idea popping into his head unbidden.

"..."

Hai Bodong felt a wave of pressure. If this really was Queen Medusa, then he was in serious trouble.

Perhaps because her identity had been exposed—

Queen Medusa no longer concealed her face. She removed her mask to reveal a breathtakingly seductive appearance, her head crowned with a golden tiara. Her narrow amethyst eyes glimmered with charm so potent it could steal the breath from any man.

She hovered above them, looking down at Yao Yan and Hai Bodong, her voice cold and threatening despite its sweetness:

"Have you two decided how you want to die?"
