Chapter 81: A Mere Dou Emperor? Watch the Arrow! Your Horse Is Gone!
The Purple Cloud Mist Eagle, raised by Jiang Lin with spirit herbs and fed Tier Two and Tier Three wind-type magic cores, had finally advanced into a Tier Two flying magical beast.
After its advancement, the eagle grew slightly larger, with a fiercer appearance. Its blue feathers diminished, replaced mostly by green ones. The purple wing patterns of the Purple Cloud Wings began extending along its wings. Two violet markings now stretched from its cheeks to its wings, even reaching its tail feathers, embedding two long, mysterious violet plumes into the blue-green tail.
Looking at the violet-blue eye shadow around the eagle's eyes, Jiang Lin couldn't help but pat its head. "Ying Jiang, you're getting cooler and cooler!"
Screech!
After reaching Tier Two, the eagle became even more intelligent. Pleased by Jiang Lin's praise, it let out a proud cry, then flapped its violet-blue wings. Jiang Lin took a leap and mounted it. In a flash, the light wings spread open, and the eagle soared several hundred meters upward before jetting off in a blur.
"Ying Jiang, you're amazing! At this speed, you might be able to compete with that Tier Three Wind Song Falcon!" Jiang Lin muttered, his scalp stinging from the fierce wind—oh right, a huge chunk of his hair had been burned off half a month ago…
The eagle's current speed was in no way inferior to certain Tier Three flying magical beasts. The compatibility between Purple Cloud Wings and the Purple Cloud Mist Eagle far exceeded Jiang Lin's expectations.
In fact, Jiang Lin believed the creator of the Purple Cloud Wings—some bone-collecting senior—probably never imagined that the wings stripped from a magical beast would actually work better on a beast than on a human!
And what Jiang Lin said about the eagle matching Tier Three beasts applied to both of its modes. Its current flight was based on Dou Qi propulsion, nearly matching the Wind Song Falcon's Dou Qi flight speed. But beasts also possessed innate bloodline powers—once activated, their speed could spike. Ying Jiang hadn't even activated its Purple Cloud Wings yet!
"Ying Jiang, let's try out the Purple Cloud Wings—full speed ahead!"
Screech!
With a whoosh, a pair of illusory purple wings suddenly spread out from its back. In an instant, Ying Jiang transformed into a four-winged eagle! With a slight flap, it streaked across the sky in a flash of blue and violet light.
This speed was no less than the Wind Song Falcon's bloodline explosion!
In terms of rank equivalence, a Tier One beast matched a Dou Zhe—mostly close-range fighters with limited external Dou Qi. At this level, the Purple Cloud Mist Eagle's Purple Cloud Wings remained fused to its own wings. But just as a Dou Shi could begin externalizing Dou Qi, a Tier Two beast also gained the ability to project Dou Qi. The Purple Cloud Wings had now detached from the physical wings and become entirely Dou Qi-formed.
"We're really flying fast now!" Jiang Lin chuckled as he gently stroked Ying Jiang's neck, watching the landscape streak past beneath them.
Sure enough, just as he finished making his four-blade Feather Sheath Wings, Ying Jiang evolved into a four-winged flyer too. Bright futures for both of them!
With this new speed, few low-star Dou Wangs could catch them. Among humans, even after mastering flight, a Dou Wang could barely reach the speed of a Tier Four beast. A Dou Huang matched Tier Five. A Dou Zong? Even a Tier Six beast at full speed would be hard to pin down. Of course, with higher realm and stronger flight/body techniques, the speed gap was closing. But in long-distance flight, magical beasts still had the natural advantage.
Thankfully, Jiang Lin hadn't seen Dou Qi Horse Manifestation, or else he wouldn't just be saying "A mere Dou Emperor? Your horse's slower than mine!"—he'd be livestreaming himself, riding Ying Jiang, defeating Dou Emperors unscathed with the power of a mere Dou Shi.
Dou Shi · Jiang Tiandi: "A mere Dou Emperor? In my eyes, you're but an ant! Watch the arrow! Your horse is gone! What's that? A Heavenly-rank Dou Technique, Dou Qi Twin Horse? Watch the arrow! Your horses are gone!"
Due to Ying Jiang's sudden speed boost, Jiang Lin arrived at Wutan City much sooner than expected. The sky was still bright. He parked his eagle at the bird station outside and headed to the Mercenary Guild.
At the guild entrance, he learned that the Blood Beast Mercenary Group had gone to attend the Miteer Auction.
After a brief farewell to receptionist Lin Lei, Jiang Lin turned and headed toward the auction house.
"Young Lin… Master Young Lin?" One of the auction guards hesitantly looked at the hooded Jiang Lin, who seemed to be hiding something.
Only his face was visible under the cloak. Jiang Lin rolled his eyes and replied, "Don't you remember I never wore a hood before? If I'm wearing one now but not hiding my face, there's obviously a reason, you nosy fool!"
"Er…" The guard stiffened, wanting to apologize, but Jiang Lin had already walked away, not bothering to make things difficult.
"Young Lin, my friend! Long time no see. Anything I can help you with?" Jiang Lin's arrival at the Miteer Auction quickly reached Gu Ni's ears. Before the internal auction began, Gu Ni personally came to Jiang Lin's private VIP lounge to greet him.
"Old Gu, got anything good for auction lately?" Jiang Lin made himself at home, snacking on all sorts of pastries the Miteer Chamber had specially prepared for him. After previous visits, they'd realized that Jiang Lin lived rather frugally, so they always prepared food and drinks in advance, which he gratefully devoured.
Jiang Lin's diet back in the Forging Valley was... minimal. He was the type who'd chew raw ingredients if he got into the zone during a project. Eat? Whatever was lying around would do.
He had even discovered a new use for the Forging Fire Art—if he ever accidentally ate spoiled meat (which he had, and it was disgusting), he could circulate the technique and wake up the next day with no ill effects. Jiang Lin even suspected that if he reached a higher level, he might be able to digest rocks.
The image of studying rocks while also gnawing on them brought tears to his eyes. He shoved several pieces of cream cake into his mouth in despair.
What the hell was this "from the people, for the people" nonsense? Just what kind of miserable life had he been living?! Sob sob sob…
"Er... easy there, little friend. There's plenty more…"
