Chapter 91: A Hero Saves the Old Man!
The powerful Dou Techniques and teamwork of the elite Da Dou Shis not native to Wutan City instantly placed Yao Chen in danger. Seeing this, Lin Hong, realizing the hot-headed ones had already stepped in, no longer held back. He drew a purple-patterned longsword—Purple Cloud Sword—and slashed directly at Yao Chen!
A Tier-Two Dou Device had a strong armor-piercing effect against both Dou Qi gauze and Dou Qi armor. Yao Chen's face turned dark—this was supposed to be a fistfight! What's with the swords and spears?! These youngsters really had no honor!
The scene quickly shifted from "a hundred-year-old man beating up a group of young guys" to "a group of young guys hacking an old man with blades."
"Skullpiercer Thrust!" Mu Yun suddenly roared. Yao Chen was about to dodge, only to realize the thrust wasn't aimed at his head but at his... lower head.
Yao Chen: Well, stab it if you must—maybe it'll finally give you peace of mind in your cultivation.
Xiao Yan panicked: "Help! Help him!!"
Just as Yao Chen was about to explode with strength far beyond a Dou Ling's level to protect Xiao Yan's "other head"...
Whoosh!
A crimson-golden streak of light pierced the night, slamming into Mu Yun's chest with a force equivalent to a full-power Da Dou Shi strike, sending him—armor and all—flying!
From the rooftop of the Miteer Auction House, Jiang Lin retracted his shot. Crimson-golden four wings spread from his back as he hovered overhead, holding a massive, absurdly large longbow.
Saving an old man wasn't his life's calling.
"Cut me some slack—how about we auction two Dual-Blade Wings tomorrow?"
"If you don't... well, next arrow's got a real tip on it."
Still, Jiang Lin felt that if he didn't intervene, something terrifying might really happen tonight.
Shock!
The moment Jiang Lin unfolded his Four-Blade Wings and appeared above everyone, the entire crowd froze.
Lin Hong and Yao Chen instantly pulled back. Mo Lan and the others helped the stunned Mu Yun to his feet. Mu Yun silently picked up the arrow with its head snapped off and looked up at the heavy bow in Jiang Lin's hands.
There was no mistake—that was the kind of impact only a Tier-Three Dou Device could deliver!
That last arrow lacked its tip, greatly reducing its piercing power and converting it into raw kinetic force. If it had been a regular arrow, both armor and Dou Qi defense would've been pierced. It wouldn't have killed Mu Yun, but it definitely would've injured him.
Yao Chen, controlling Xiao Yan's body, retreated a bit, then looked up at Jiang Lin hovering in the sky. A subtle trace of surprise flickered in his eyes.
He hadn't expected that cheeky brat to step in on his behalf. In Yao Chen's mind, the fact Jiang Lin didn't sneak in a shot during the chaos already proved he was a decent human being. Yao Chen now understood why the auction had felt slightly off—clearly, Jiang Lin had stirred things up behind the scenes.
But why?
Yao Chen silently stared at Jiang Lin in the sky, holding a bow nearly as tall as he was. There was no doubt that this setup could completely suppress anyone below Dou Ling. And even those who could briefly hover in the air—like early-stage Dou Lings—might still be harassed.
"We underestimated that boy. He's sharper than we thought. We might already be exposed—at least to him." Yao Chen murmured in his heart.
"Teacher… are you going to kill him to keep our secret?" Xiao Yan squinted at Jiang Lin's massive bow glowing in the night sky. For some reason, it felt eerily familiar.
"…You're really good at jokes, aren't you?" Yao Chen nearly laughed out loud. Just moments ago, he kept calling him "Brother Lin," and now he was wondering if they should kill him? Clearly, he was messing around.
With such a high-bloodline figure, there were likely safeguards on him. If he died out in the world, the elders of his clan would surely sense it. Then things would get… complicated. And Yao Chen, in his current ghost-like state, wouldn't be able to run far.
This was why he had always been wary of Xiao Yan getting too close to Jiang Lin. Though he didn't know why Jiang Lin was in such a remote place, his bloodline was undoubtedly potent. If Jiang Lin were to die, it would trigger some kind of failsafe, calling down a terrifying elder. Yao Chen hadn't been able to beat those old monsters even at his peak.
"Master Young Lin sure carries a lot of good stuff…" Lin Hong muttered, rubbing his bruised fists. Looking up at Jiang Lin with a hint of envy, he forced a smile, dragged the wounded Jia Lie Clan leader, and motioned for the others to retreat with him.
Lin Hong had originally gathered this group just to snatch something and had kept things relatively restrained. Yao Chen didn't want to reveal too much power either, so both sides kept their clashes within the Da Dou Shi level. But as the fight dragged on, Lin Hong realized this old man could fight forever—barely breathing hard—using only two solid techniques and overwhelming combat skills. He was getting pummeled like a sandbag.
He'd started thinking of backing off, but then Mu Yun's squad arrived, offering hope. So he drew the Purple Cloud Sword, a weapon obtained through other channels, and joined the attack.
Truth be told, even a Tier-Two Dou Device made a difference. Yao Chen was beginning to feel the pressure. He couldn't take them down as a mere Da Dou Shi. Sure, he had something strong in his ring—but he couldn't use it now. If he did, Xiao Yan would no longer be able to.
Eightfold Collapse, as a high-level Xuan technique, had now also landed in Jiang Lin's hands. Later, Xiao Yan could use Jiang Lin's name as a cover. But if the Xuan Heavy Ruler was revealed now, that would be much harder to explain.
With that signature weapon in play, the style of battle would change too noticeably.
Besides the Blood Beast Mercenary Group, the other black-cloaked Da Dou Shis quickly withdrew. Since nothing irreversible had happened, they could still return tomorrow as respected patriarchs and guild leaders. As for the bruises? "Oh, nothing—slipped and fell last night."
The Blood Beast Mercenaries also wanted to leave, but Jiang Lin raised a hand to stop them.
"What do you want?" Yao Chen asked, now that most others had dispersed. He knew Jiang Lin's purpose clearly—he wasn't here for the view.
"To ask for medicine," Jiang Lin said with a light smile, looking down at the cloaked alchemist below.
