Chapter 83 - The Defense of Biringan

"In the heart of Biringan, where myth and machine collide, courage is not optional. It is the shield that holds the line, the blade that shapes victory, and the force that turns chaos into order."

───────────────────────────

The Call to Biringan

Location: Subic Myth-Tech Docks

The Subic Myth-Tech Docks operated at peak capacity beneath a darkened sky.

Warships maintained formation across the harbor, with floodlights tracking movements across steel platforms. Crews diligently executed final checks on engines, weaponry, and transport systems, adhering to a precise schedule.

The Sandata Unit assembled.

Marian advanced first, both Sundangs resting securely at her sides. She took her position without hesitation.

Agosto approached, his Kampilan secured across his back, and came to a halt beside her, exuding a determined demeanor.

Renato stepped in next, the Kalasag badge prominently displayed on his chest, standing firm with his gaze fixed ahead.

Yoo Min Jun arrived next, his Bonguk Geom secured at his side.

Tsubame Hayashi-Hime followed, the Tombo Giri resting across her shoulders.

Dr. Han Wei stepped forward, nine needles precisely aligned along his waist.

Prasert Ratannachai took his position, the Phra Saeng Khan Chaiyasi sheathed at his side.

Ari Sujatmiko entered next, his Tombak strapped firmly on his back.

Sutera Kencana stepped in, her Keris Lautan Niskala sheathed along her lower spine.

The spacing was impeccable, requiring no instruction.

Gregorio entered last, his Kamay ni Bathala covering both hands. Violet energy remained contained, the runes pulsing once before stabilizing. He took his position with the unit.

President Esperanza Sinukuan stepped forward, flanked by Joaquin Santillan on her right and Emilio Valdez on her left. Goddess Makiling remained beside Joaquin, silent and observant.

Sinukuan addressed the unit.

"Seven hours ago, the Anino ng mga Anito launched a full-scale siege."

She continued without pause.

"Target location: Biringan."

A display activated behind them, revealing the city in disarray. Energy collisions rippled across its perimeter, with defensive barriers sustaining heavy impact.

"Their objective remains unknown."

"They are committing full force."

Stepping forward, she stated, "The Babaylan Saints are already deployed."

"Juan Luciano."

"Magdalena."

"Crispulo."

"Mia."

"They are holding the central fortress."

"Our objective is immediate reinforcement."

"We must stabilize the defense."

"We will break the siege."

She turned slightly, allowing Joaquin to speak.

"Enemy force density is high across all entry points."

"Engagement will commence upon arrival."

"There is no staging window."

He gestured toward the display.

"Expect multi-vector attacks."

"Maintain formation integrity."

Emilio added, "Energy readings indicate additional activity within Biringan."

"Source unidentified."

"Fluctuations may affect both offense and defense systems."

He paused briefly.

"Adjust output accordingly."

Makiling stepped forward, capturing their attention.

"Access to Biringan will require a ritual entry."

She held their gaze firmly.

"The Gates cannot be opened by force."

"I will initiate the breach."

A moment of silence followed.

"Once inside, movement will be constrained by domain conditions."

She stepped back.

Sinukuan resumed, "You are the only unit capable of executing this operation."

"If Biringan falls, we will lose the support of the Babaylans."

No further elaboration followed.

She turned toward the harbor.

"Asset briefing."

The Mandirigma rose into view, now configured as a Myth-Tech Aircraft Carrier.

With an expanded flight deck, reinforced armor, and missile systems strategically deployed, rail cannons mounted along its axis, and elemental cannons positioned on both sides, the Mandirigma was prepared for battle.

Joaquin explained, "The Mandirigma now operates as a primary combat platform."

"Missile systems have been upgraded."

"Additional rail cannons have been installed."

"Extra elemental artillery has been integrated."

"Close-range suppression has been expanded."

Below, the Kabalyero advanced, compact and armored, with weapon mounts aligned along both sides.

"The Kabalyero is designated for ground deployment."

"Rapid insertion and sustained engagement are its primary functions."

Above, the Adarna descended, the Republic's Myth-Tech Battle Airship.

A large-scale platform equipped with missile arrays and elemental cannons, it offered long-range strike capability.

"The Adarna provides aerial support and long-range coverage."

A formation of smaller units deployed from the Mandirigma's lower bays, compact aerial constructs that moved in tight synchronization.

"Myth-Tech attack drones are now integrated into the fleet."

"Equipped with high-output gattling cannons."

"Glyph Logic missile systems have been installed."

"Autonomous targeting is enabled through Myth-Tech Advanced Intelligence."

"Designed for suppression, interception, and close support."

Sinukuan faced the unit once more.

"All upgrades were led by Flavio and his team."

Emilio added, "Glyph Logic has been integrated across all systems."

"Myth-Tech Advanced Intelligence is now active."

Sinukuan concluded, "You are fully equipped."

"You are fully supported."

"Deploy."

She stepped aside, and the unit moved immediately.

Marian advanced.

Agosto followed.

Renato moved in sync.

Yoo Min Jun.

Tsubame.

Han Wei.

Prasert.

Ari.

Sutera.

Gregorio followed last.

Boarding ramps extended, and the crew cleared all lanes.

The Mandirigma's deck activated in sequence.

The Kabalyero locked into position.

The Adarna adjusted overhead.

The attack drones returned to formation above the carrier.

Each member boarded without delay, securing their weapons and assigning positions.

Systems synchronized.

The carrier sealed.

Engines escalated.

Power surged through the hull.

The Mandirigma pulled away from the docks.

Fleet elements aligned with it.

Inside, the unit held position.

Marian gripped her blades tightly.

Agosto adjusted the Kampilan.

Renato remained steady.

The others conducted final checks on their Sandatas.

Gregorio stood at the rear, Kamay ni Bathala still contained.

The carrier accelerated.

Cloud cover thickened ahead.

Course locked: Biringan.

───────────────────────────

The Siege of Biringan

Location: Gates of Biringan

The gates of Biringan held firm under pressure.

Beyond them, the city moved with urgency. Evacuation lines pushed inward as Babaylan soldiers directed Engkantos, Diwatas, and humans through secured corridors. Energy barriers flickered above transit lanes while transport platforms lifted civilians in controlled waves.

Order prevailed.

Outside the gates, war advanced relentlessly.

The Engineered Anino ng mga Anito Army advanced in dense formations, their movements uniform and unwavering. Myth-Tech constructs marched in tandem, tanks rolled into position, and artillery aligned.

At the forefront stood the Babaylan Saints.

Hermano held the center, his Banal na Parusa radiating with divine force.

Juan positioned himself to Hermano's far right, Habagat ni Silang swirling above him, building wind pressure as lightning threaded through the gathering storm.

Magdalena lingered behind them, her Tanikala ng Guniguni dragging across the battlefield.

Crispulo was obscured from view, his presence felt only in the shadows that moved without form.

Mia elevated near the inner wall, her Aklat ng Katotohanan opened, pages turning without touch, altering battlefield variables with each line.

The first wave struck.

Juan moved.

"Storm Smite."

Wind tore through the frontline as lightning struck in rapid succession, scattering rows of Anino units across the field like ragdolls.

Magdalena followed suit, spinning her chains overhead. Illusions emerged, distorting enemy perception as units turned on false targets, breaking formations. She danced amidst a storm of whiplashes, dispatching swarms of Anino units effortlessly.

Crispulo struck with a flicker, sending bodies collapsing cleanly and immediately.

Hermano raised his hand.

"HOLD THE LINE!"

His voice resonated across the battlefield.

He unleashed a blast of divine energy that scattered the advancing Anino units before him.

Behind them, evacuation efforts continued apace.

A child stumbled near the inner corridor, prompting a soldier to break formation.

Hermano acted first.

Banal na Parusa pulsed.

A pressure wave forced back a cluster of advancing Anino units, creating space.

The soldier rescued the child and returned to formation.

Hermano reset his stance.

Juan stepped closer.

"They're pushing without command signals," he observed.

Hermano's gaze remained fixed ahead.

"They don't require them."

Juan's storm intensified, concern evident.

"That's the problem."

Another wave advanced.

He raised his arm, only to falter as the air shifted.

Above the battlefield, space distorted, and a fracture formed in midair—thin and unstable at first.

Then...

A hand broke through.

Makiling.

Her first hand pierced the air of Biringan, energy splitting around it as reality resisted her entry.

Her second hand followed, gripping the edges of the fracture.

Then she pulled.

The sky tore open, and Makiling floated between both sides of the breach, her presence steady and absolute.

Widening the opening, the battlefield paused for a moment before the Adarna surged into the fray.

The Myth-Tech Battle Airship entered at speed, engines roaring as weapon systems activated mid-entry.

Behind it, a swarm of Myth-Tech attack drones poured in, maintaining tight formation with targeting systems online.

Inside the Adarna, Agosto stood at the forward bay, flanked by Renato.

Yoo Min Jun, Sutera, Prasert, and Ari locked in as well.

Below, enemy anti-air systems reacted swiftly. Missiles launched.

Renato stepped forward.

"Kalasag."

The Wall of Giants deployed, massive spectral shields forming around the Adarna and the drone formation. Missiles impacted, leading to detonations that spread across the barrier.

The Adarna responded with fire.

Elemental cannons discharged across the battlefield, unleashing fire, lightning, and force upon the advancing Anino units.

The drones followed suit, their gattling cannons spinning as Glyph Logic missiles deployed in synchronized volleys.

Explosions ripped through enemy lines.

Below, the Kabalyero burst through the breach at full velocity, its armor locked and weapons primed.

Inside, Gregorio commanded the vehicle.

Marian sat beside him, Tsubame steady, and Han Wei composed.

"ENGAGE!"

The Kabalyero opened fire, its gattling guns roaring as rounds sliced through the horde.

Units fell in rapid succession, the vehicle maintaining its relentless pace as it drove straight toward the gates.

Hermano noticed.

"Open the gates!"

The command echoed instantly.

The gates of Biringan split open.

The Kabalyero charged through at full speed, turning sideways and skidding across the inner courtyard before coming to a stop.

Doors released.

Gregorio moved first, igniting Kamay ni Bathala.

Marian followed, her Sundangs drawn.

Tsubame stepped out, her Tombo Giri at the ready.

Han Wei deployed, his needles levitating.

Behind them, the Kabalyero shifted as armor plates reconfigured, the frame expanding as weapon systems rotated into new positions.

The vehicle transformed into its Myth-Tech Attack Mech configuration.

Gregorio glanced back, momentarily pausing.

"...Flavio."

The mech's core activated.

"Myth-Tech Advanced Intelligence online."

Agosto dropped from above, impacting the ground with a force that cracked the courtyard stone.

Renato landed beside him, barrier fragments dissipating around him.

Yoo Min Jun descended cleanly, while Sutera and Prasert landed in precise stances.

Ari struck the ground last.

The Sandata Unit assembled, fully present and armed.

Gregorio stepped forward, his voice cutting through the chaos.

"Operation Divine Shield."

"Commence."

The unit moved.

Outside the gates, the siege intensified.

Inside, the defense shifted.

The battlefield was no longer holding.

It was on the verge of turning.

───────────────────────────

The Sandata Engaged

Location: Babaylan Fortress Courtyard -> Central Gate

The city of Biringan remained vigilant.

Light coursed through its towers, across suspended walkways, and beneath streets etched with ancient sigils that hummed in quiet harmony with unseen forces. Here, myth and machine coexisted as a singular system.

Tonight, that harmony faced an assault.

The first explosions struck the outer districts—not random or chaotic, but measured and precise.

Babaylan soldiers formed defensive tiers along the main streets, their Myth-Tech rifles firing disciplined bursts, each shot infused with elemental charge. Energy cut through the advancing forces, striking the enemy with controlled precision.

Grenades arced over barricades, detonating into bursts of fire, shockwaves, and ice, locking clusters of Anino units in place before shattering them.

The first wave of the Engineered Anino ng mga Anito faltered.

Bodies burned, limbs shattered, and forms collapsed. Yet, they continued to advance.

Distorted constructs surged through walls of flame. Behind them, more followed, crawling, dragging themselves, and climbing over the fallen.

A Babaylan frontliner fired until his rifle overheated, reaching for a grenade but was struck down.

The barricade fell.

He vanished beneath the mass.

"Fall back and reform!" a commander shouted.

Soldiers retreated in disciplined lines, dragging the wounded while another unit stepped forward instantly, rifles raised, maintaining the firing rhythm.

They were losing ground but retained control.

The sky shifted as a formation of Myth-Tech attack drones descended.

Their cannons rotated and fired, lightning lances tearing through clustered enemies, branching across bodies. Streams of fire consumed entire sections while pressurized wind blasts scattered formations.

The advance slowed.

An Anino leapt and collided midair with a drone, resulting in a devastating explosion that ripped through the formation.

Fragments spiraled into the streets.

Another drone dipped, firing while compensating for its crash, before striking a nearby tower and detonating.

Still, the rest advanced, firing continuously.

A low hum rolled across the city.

The Adarna appeared above Biringan, vast and precise, its systems now predictive.

Missile bays opened, each missile curving mid-flight to track dense Anino clusters.

Explosions erupted across the outer districts.

Rail cannons fired straight, piercing through enemies and structures, while foundations cracked from residual force.

Elemental cannons discharged, unleashing firestorms that surged outward. Lightning cascades locked sectors in place, and compressed winds cleared evacuation corridors.

Entire streets were cleared in mere moments.

Silence lasted less than a second before the Anino surged again, filling the void.

Biringan's people fled as one. Engkanto, Diwata, and humans moved through fractured streets disregarding their differences. A mother carried her child, while a wounded man was dragged along. A Diwata raised a flickering barrier as nearby structures crumbled around them.

Babaylan escorts guided evacuation lines, firing backward without breaking formation.

A section of the elevated pathway collapsed.

Some civilians did not escape. A soldier broke formation to save them, holding the line until the corridor was clear.

The city was damaged but still held.

The Sandata moved across the battlefield.

Marian stepped forward, mist coiling at her feet.

An Anino unit lunged at her. She moved once: draw, cut, sheathe. The enemy fell.

A swarm followed.

She drew both Sundangs, executing an outward swipe that shredded the surrounding Anino ng mga Anito Wielders to pieces.

Fog began to envelop the area.

Yoo Min Jun advanced with measured steps, his blade striking only when necessary, white light dancing through the bodies of those who dared confront him.

Agosto teleported through the fray, leaving arcs of fire in his wake. Each strike was precise and deliberate.

Prasert unleashed relentless golden slash arcs, tearing through the charging Engineered Anino Sandata Wielders.

Han Wei's needles orbited him, launching toward their targets with unerring precision. Each needle brought instantaneous death to those struck.

Gregorio stood at the rear, Kamay ni Bathala pulsing faintly.

Three Engineered Anino ng mga Anito Wielders managed to breach the onslaught.

They charged at Gregorio, only to be met with devastating force:

A back fist.

A roundhouse kick.

And a ground-shattering shoulder throw.

Gregorio continued walking, leaving only the shattered remains of his assailants in his wake.

The line at the Central Gate broke but was swiftly restored.

Renato blocked impacts with his shield, counterstrikes shattering constructs as he leapt into the riot's heart.

Shield smites.

Rising knee strikes.

Spinning backhands.

Lastly, he smashed his shield to the ground, sending out a shockwave that sent the Anino Wielders flying in the opposite direction.

Tsubame moved with precision, twirling her spear as she tore through groups of Anino soldiers, concluding her dance with a backhand sweep that separated her adversaries from their torsos.

Across the street, Sutera surfed a river without a board, slashing hordes of Anino Wielders as they were drowned by the surging current.

The Kabalyero, now in Mech Mode, reinforced the gate, firing missiles and cannons at the advancing horde of Anino soldiers.

Amidst the chaos, Ari dropped from the heavens spear-first, clearing the center of the horde. The remaining forces charged at him, but he pierced the ground again, lifted himself up, and delivered a backhand sweep with his spear, sending bodies flying in all directions.

The gate held.

Then the Anino High Council arrived.

A Babaylan soldier paused, looking skyward as lines formed above, intersecting to create geometric symbols.

The air itself seemed to rewrite.

A massive gate appeared, suspended over the battlefield—engineered, stable, and complete.

Through the gate, Sergei landed, Kuroda appeared, and Batu descended onto the street.

Datu Alon stepped through, grounding the space around them.

Tala Martinez followed, finishing the inscriptions as the gate sealed behind them.

What had been a controlled battlefield became unstable.

The Sandata stood ready.

The High Council remained in silence.
