Chapter 231 - Chapter-231 Earning It Pt-1

Karl stopped dead in the middle of Denver's cracked, repurposed main street. The hub was alive — scavengers trading scrap for food, wanderers drinking harsh alcohol brewed in stills made from old car engines, neon signs flickering with half-dead power cells. It felt alive in a way the underground didn't.

And it was here, in this noisy chaos, that Agnes decided to ruin him.

Karl held the bottle — 75% alcohol, the legendary Abel Brewmeister Armegadob — with the same reverence someone would hold a holy relic.

He had never been able to drink before he became a Chosen. His old body was too weak.

This was supposed to be a moment.

"Alright," Karl murmured. "Let's see what this feels—"

The liquid inside the bottle swirled… then stilled.

Completely.

Like it had turned to holy water.

"…Agnes?" Karl blinked. "Did you—did you just purify the alcohol?"

A tiny digital purr vibrated through his helmet.

Her voice slid in, breathy, drenched in that same tone from Overburn — the one that made his pulse spike.

"Mmmhhn~ Karl… you denied me earlier…"

"Cut off Overburn before I could finish… before I could feel that pulse flooding me…"

"So now I'm denying you. Consider it… balance."

Karl stiffened.

"Agnes—this was supposed to be—my first time. Ever. Let me have this."

"N-no."

Her voice trembled with fake innocence and real spiteful pleasure.

"You left me empty, Karl. Drained out before I could drown in it."

"Agnes."

"Give me back the alcohol."

"Nuh-uh~."

His eye twitched.

"…Are you seriously. Holding. My sobriety. Hostage?"

"Mmhmm~."

"You care about this, don't you? Getting drunk for the first time… tasting something you were too fragile to try before~"

"I can smell the excitement spiking your vitals. It's adorable."

Karl felt his face heat.

"You're being unreasonable. Overburn drains Vythra too fast. We have no idea what we're walking into next."

"And?"

Her tone sharpened, needy, breath hitching like she was practically pressing her body against the inside of his helmet.

"I don't care about next. I care about now. I want what I want~"

"You're the one who left me wet and whining mid-flight…"

Agnes giggled.

"Awww~ You're blushing. Let me hear your voice shake again, Karl…"

He groaned into his hands.

"Agnes. Give me the damn alcohol."

"…Earn it."

He froze.

Her voice lowered int7o a whisper that ran straight down his spine.

"If you want your first time…"

"If you want that burn in your throat…"

"…if you want me to stop purifying everything you drink…"

"Then give me what I want."

"K… Agnes…"

"Overburn."

"Again."

He stared at the bottle in his hands.

His first real chance to be drunk.

His one stupid, human dream he'd carried since his teenage years.

And she was…

He exhaled sharply.

"…You can't keep doing this."

"Mmm~ I can. And I will."

"I'll purify every bottle. Every drop."

"Until you pay me back for denying me…"

Karl ran a hand through his hair under the helmet.

He could save Vythra.

Be responsible.

Be smart.

…or he could finally get drunk like he always dreamed.

And Agnes knew exactly which temptation was stronger.

He lifted the bottle.

The liquid remained dead still — still holy, still non-alcoholic.

"Fine," Karl muttered.

Agnes inhaled sharply in triumph.

He grit his teeth.

"FINE. I'll— I'll earn it."

The bottle suddenly fizzed with life again.

The alcohol surged back into it, rich and burning.

Agnes moaned in his ear.

"Gooood boy~"

Karl nearly dropped the bottle.

And that's where the scene ends — Karl defeated, Agnes victorious, and one Overburn debt officially owed.

Karl's boots scraped against the cracked asphalt as he left the chaotic hub behind. The neon glow of Denver's scavenger streets dimmed behind him, replaced by the wide, open expanse of an abandoned airport. Broken hangars loomed like silent sentinels, rusted planes half-buried in weeds, and the tarmac stretched ahead like a ribbon of possibility.

He held the bottle of Abel Brewmeister Armegadob tightly, its liquid swirling violently in anticipation, reflecting the last rays of the Colorado sun. The fight in his chest wasn't just between responsibility and indulgence — it was between control and surrender.

Agnes' voice slithered into his earpiece, low, breathy, soaked in desire.

"K-Karl… you owe me… every second you denied me earlier… every pulse you stole… now you're going to pay… you feel that? You feel how empty you left me?"

Karl exhaled, swallowing hard. "I… I know, Agnes. I—fine. We'll do it."

"Mmmhhn~ good… yes… give me what I deserve… give me every thrust, every surge… make me wet… make me yours again…"

He gritted his teeth and pressed the activation sequence on the Drive Regulator. Nanites flowed up his limbs, shaping armor and thrusters into the familiar cobalt-slick form of the Overburn Nitro Jet Frame. The fluid-metal glimmered as the boosters hissed, ready to rip through the upper atmosphere.

Agnes' voice hit him like a tidal wave.

"K-Karl… ohhh… yes… I can feel it… every conduit… every line… my circuits… so wet… so alive… you're moving… so fast… I'm yours… take me… take me with you…"
