Chapter 194 - Chapter 195: Outshining Depp's Performance

The scene being filmed so far has been eerily silent on screen.

Aside from a few moments where Depp uses a sound device to mimic dripping water, there's no other noise.

Coupled with post-production sound editing, when this movie hits theaters, audiences will feel like someone hit the mute button during this sequence—an unsettling vibe.

But this dead silence amplifies the tense, heavy atmosphere, making viewers feel like they can't even breathe too loudly.

"Drip!"

As the sound echoes, the guard, confused, spins around to investigate.

He's totally stumped, unable to figure out where the leak is or why he keeps hearing water dripping.

Taking advantage of the moment, Luke and his partner quickly push the invisible wall forward a few meters.

At this point, the invisible wall has passed the entrance to the room Luke needs to enter.

He's ready to slip into the data room.

Depp crouches down, grabbing the equipment to continue the operation.

But, being his usual careless self, he doesn't notice that his face is directly in front of the rear camera on the invisible wall.

This camera captures the image behind the curtain and projects it onto the screen to fool the guard.

So, Depp's big face suddenly appears on the wall's surface.

With an innocent look, seemingly oblivious, he blinks his eyes.

Meanwhile, the guard is turning back around!

If he looks up, he'll see Depp's giant face right in front of him, and Luke's infiltration mission will fail instantly.

Once the alarm is triggered, guards will swarm from all directions, trapping them like fish in a barrel.

Luke spots the danger immediately. The camera zooms in on his face, capturing a mix of one part irritation and nine parts panic, vividly displayed.

At the critical moment, Luke's hand shoots out like lightning, forcefully pushing Depp's head down and out of the camera's range.

The guard, turning back, sees nothing unusual and returns to his chair.

Behind the curtain, Depp, narrowly escaping disaster, covers his mouth with both hands, terrified of making a sound. His throat bobs up and down, as if swallowing hard or forcing his racing heart back into place.

This is Depp portraying extreme tension and the relief of surviving a close call—not a bad performance.

But covering his mouth with both hands blocks his facial expressions, making it a somewhat lazy, imperfect acting choice.

Luke, on the other hand, takes a completely different approach.

The moment Depp's face is exposed, Luke's eyes flash with anger at his bumbling teammate, paired with intense panic.

They say the eyes are the window to the soul, but making them speak—conveying emotions that the audience instantly understands—requires exceptional acting skill.

Luke nails it. His masterful performance allows his eyes to pull viewers right into his emotional state.

Anger, fear, and the relief of surviving a close call—all conveyed perfectly through his gaze on the big screen.

Luke's character has always come across as incredibly composed.

From his earlier silence and unflinching demeanor in front of the guard, his steady personality shines through.

So, when he shows intense fear now, it creates a stark contrast.

This pulls the audience right into the tense atmosphere.

But Luke's acting goes even deeper, elevating the performance further.

Behind the curtain, he takes a big gulp of air but doesn't dare exhale loudly.

A heavy gasp could alert the guard.

So, he holds it in, letting the air out in small, controlled bursts.

At the same time, he closes his eyes, seemingly calming himself down.

This sequence—shock, fear, relief, and finally regaining composure—is flawlessly portrayed by Luke.

They say great acting balances intensity and restraint, making the heavy feel light. Luke's performance here is a textbook example.

Once the movie is released, this scene is sure to become a classic case study in acting schools worldwide.

Having dodged the crisis, Depp clasps his hands together, silently apologizing to Luke.

Luke waves it off, signaling him to focus on the next step of the mission.

He reaches the data room door, uses Depp's equipment to easily crack the electronic lock, and slips inside.

Depp stays outside, keeping watch.

Inside the data room, Luke switches on his flashlight, carefully searching through the file cabinets.

Soon, he zeroes in on his target.

But when he opens the cabinet with high hopes, he's stunned to find it empty.

"Empty. Someone took the files," Luke says, speaking for only the second time in this scene.

Just then, a sound crackles through his earpiece:

"Ah… ah…"

It sounds like someone struggling, on the verge of death.

Crack!

A sharp sound, like a neck being snapped.

What's going on?

Why is this sound coming through their communication channel?

As Luke tries to make sense of it, a voice speaks:

"Captain, report your status. Everything good?"

The words are in English.

"Who are you? Someone's infiltrated the data room! Catch them!"

Another voice comes through the channel, this time in Russian, accompanied by the sound of rapid footsteps.

Clearly, someone has hacked their comms and linked their channel to the Kremlin guards' system.

The intruder calls Luke "Captain" and reveals his location in the data room.

This instantly triggers a manhunt by the Kremlin guards.

"Captain, I'm awaiting your signal to detonate," the mysterious voice continues.

"Abort the mission!" Luke orders decisively.

He and Depp quickly head out, while Yuffie, stationed in the plaza, hears the command and jogs away.

The background music picks up, shattering the earlier silence and creating a sharp contrast.

"Split up, meet at the rendezvous point," Luke says briefly.

He and Depp take off in opposite directions.

At the data room's straight corridor, another guard arrives first: "Get up, we've got a situation!"

The two look down the corridor, and the scene starts to glitch strangely.

Two figures appear, and the visual capture camera can't decide which to focus on.

The equipment's screen shows a box locking onto their gazes, jumping back and forth.

As more guards arrive, the screen flickers even more, rapidly switching perspectives.

"Quick! Something's wrong!"

The guards rush forward, their hands brushing against the "invisible wall" that's been deceiving them.

They shove it aside and sprint after the intruders.

"Sound the alarm! Catch them!"
