I chose not to go back to my apartment and instead checked into the Silverlight Hotel, using the room Lorena had permanently reserved for my visits.

Rain had been drumming against the city for days now, coming and going in unpredictable waves.

Soren had stayed by my side the day we laid Lorena to rest.

Once he noticed my grief beginning to settle into something manageable, he quietly left. Christina continued to keep me company.

I found myself staring at the raindrops racing down the window glass, each one triggering a flood of memories from years past.

Lorena had always been a crier in her younger days, appearing delicate and breakable to everyone around her. Most of her tears were shed in private, and half the time they were completely fabricated.

She could produce tears on command, but genuine sadness rarely accompanied them. Yet sometimes, her theatrical weeping would transform into real heartbreak.
