Lorena lost control and burst into laughter.

Every head in the dining room swiveled toward her. She coughed awkwardly, then grumbled, "Seriously, when are we actually going to eat? I'm absolutely famished."

She didn't need to announce it. My stomach had been growling for the past hour.

Determined to make the most of this exclusive dinner invitation, I'd survived on nothing but a handful of grapes at lunch.

Lorena had fared only slightly better with a single slice of cake.

Everyone had taken their seats ages ago, yet the silverware remained untouched. What were we waiting for?

My phone chimed with another notification.

Soren's message appeared on the screen. The waiter will escort you over here.

My blood ran cold. What game was this cunning man playing now?

His motives remained a mystery to me, leaving me with no choice but to comply.
