Alistair's cold smile sent a chill down my spine as he leaned back in his chair.
"Do you honestly believe your feelings will last forever?"
The question hung in the air between us like a blade. I refused to give him the satisfaction of an answer, though deep in my heart, I understood the truth he was driving at. Everything had an expiration date, even love.
But when a man captured your soul completely, the rules changed.
Doubt crept into my thoughts like poison. Had Cobb ever truly loved me? If his feelings were real, how could he have abandoned me drunk and vulnerable in that hotel room? How could he have built our entire relationship on lies and betrayal?
Perhaps he had loved me once, but it was nothing more than a fleeting infatuation that burned out as quickly as it ignited.
