Chapter 1 - Prologue

In the vast ocean of the universe exist jump points—colossal portals capable of linking distant worlds. These natural phenomena function as bridges across the void, connecting planets separated by entire systems and galaxies.

They don't appear just anywhere: only certain planets possess a jump point, and those that do form part of a closed network. Each network is composed of a limited number of planets connected to one another, and no network joins with another. Thus, each network is independent—a map of its own within the immensity of the cosmos.

The workings of jump points are unpredictable. They can open at any moment and remain active for an unknown duration: sometimes a single day, sometimes complete cycles. Likewise, they can close suddenly and stay dormant for long periods. No one can determine their duration or rhythm; they are the breathing of the universe, indifferent to all will.

Within one of these networks lies a colossal planet: Arkanis. A giant of endless oceans and towering mountain ranges, it is merely one more within its network of jump points, but in its vastness it holds stages where the fate of many will be written.

It is on this world, beneath its immense skies and across its boundless lands, where the story about to be told begins.
