Chapter 11 - Likes on Social Media and the Vaporeon Meme

 "Uhhh…"

Rachel looked confused as Professor Graves displayed from her tablet, a picture of a blond-haired girl. She was sitting by herself enjoying a Matcha latte inside a Starbucks as the strange magical pixie did this.

"Do you know who this is Rachel!?"

 "Uhhh… a generic anime girl?"

 "…"

Professor Graves looked at her with a look of disdain.

 "Urgh… Weiss girls I swear."

" "Sorry?"

"Nothing…" she said putting the picture of "Violet Evergarden" away.

 "OKAY, how about this one?!"

"Uhh…" Rachel was drawing another blank.

"Is that someone from uhhh… Naruto?"

 "…"

"By the way, I've actually never seen Naruto so…"

 "She's not from anime!"

"Oh uhhh… then is that someone from Adventure Time?"

 "…"

She put the picture of Lux Crownguard away.

"OKAY SURELY YOU KNOW WHO THIS IS…"

"Oh yeah!" she said, "that's uhhh… Zelda right?"

 "…"

 "What?"

 "Okay, you're trolling right?"

"What? Is it not? I swear I've seen her before! The blonde hair, the Princess like attire! But like… I've never actually played many video games so…"

 "That's Princess Peach…"

 "What! From?"

 "Mario…"

 "Oh…"

 "…"

 "…"

Rachel took a sip of her Matcha Latte. Professor Graves also had a caffeinated drink with her that she had magically made appear with her wand. She was sipped on the drink slowly while continuing to look at Rachel with judgement.

"HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW ANY OF THESE FICTIONAL CHARACTERS… what do even do for fun!?!"

"Watch British and Koreon shows mostly," Rachel said setting down her drink, "and why are you showing only 2D girls again?"

"BECAUSE!" Professor Graves said setting down her own Latte, "do you not know the quickest way for pretty Weiss girls like you to become a star!?"

 "I'm sorry… you've said that twice now, what's a Weiss girl?"

"OMG…" Professor Graves flew near Rachel's face and began holding her cheeks.

" "GIRL, we are watching a RWBY Marathon later! How are you this uncultured?!"

"Ummm… well culture is a tricky thing since…"

"YEAH YEAH whatever Elsa… what the hell's your favorite show then? We needa get you in cosplay asap!"

 "…"

"You do know what cosplay is right?"

 "Yeah…"

 She groaned.

"Oh, don't be like that!" Professor Graves insisted, pulling out her tablet again. "Don't you know cosplaying is the easiest way to retain an audience!?"

 "I mean… I guess…" Rachel said sighing.

"What's the problem?" Professor Graves asked pulling up a list of blonde characters from her laptop.

"Don't you have someone in fiction you want to dress up as?"

 "Well…"

"You're wasting your very nice natural blonde hair if you ask me!" Professor Graves said, going up to her and running Rachel's hair through her fingers. Professor Graves currently had black hair but had dyed her hair many colors such as blonde previously depending on what aesthetic she was feeling that month.

"Fuck… you'd make the perfect Violet… maybe you should dress up as her anyways!"

 "Mmm…Idk…doesn't that seem a bit…"

 "Inauthentic?"

Professor Graves waived her hand dismissively at Rachel.

"Pshhhh… that doesn't matter! You just have to look the part!"

 "Yeah but… shouldn't I at least…"

 "At least?"

"At least… I don't know… enjoy the story the character's from? I mean… sure, I might get views just from cosplaying popular characters. Everyone knows that. But that doesn't mean it'll be enjoyable, nor will I feel good about it either, ya know?"

Professor Graves looked at Rachel for a moment after her statement, blinking to make sure she was serious. When she realized she was, the Professor burst out in laughter.

"Bwhahahaha don't be silly, NOTHING FEELS BETTER THAN GETTING LIKES ON SOCIAL MEDIA…"

 "But…"

 "NOTHING…"

 "…"

 "…"

Rachel still looked uncomfortable as Professor Graves continued.

"Do you want to be a star or not! Who cares what you actually like or don't like, it's not about you honey… it's about what the audience wants."

 "But…"

"But okay! If it's THAT big of a deal to you, then just name ANY character you like then!"

"Uhhh…" she thought for a moment.

"Have you seen this show Tower of God?"

 "…"

 "…"

 "Wait, so you haven't seen…"

"YOU ARE NOT PLAYING A CHARACTER WITH THE SAME NAME AND APPEARANCE AS YOU… that's so boring…"

 "But… I like being myself."

"Urgh… of course you do…" Professor Graves groaned, "BS Kimi no na wa draw fricken Mary Sue character looking…"

 "Kimiko no what now?"

"Kimi no…never mind, just…" she sighed, "I suppose as an alternative first task, the first thing I can help you with is posting an online dance cover instead…"

"Oh yeah, I've always wanted to do one of those!" Rachel said, "what do you have in mind?"

"Surely you've heard of Avril, yes?"

 "…"

 "…"

 "Aren't you stereotyping a bit?"

"What! Noooooo, everyone listens to Avril! As much as I hate to admit it…"

 "I mean that's true but… that's not really my vibe…"

 "Then?"

Rachel smiled as she did a finger heart.

"Do you know who Kim Hyuna is?"

 "…"

 "…"

"I mean, I don't know if they have K-pop in your pixie society but…"

"YES, I KNOW WHO KIM HYUNA IS…" Professor Graves interrupted, "I'm just shocked a Weiss girl would listen to K-Pop… but on second thought, actually I'm not surprised at all."

"Okay… is Weiss just like… a more PC way to say white or something."

"Omg…" Professor Graves said rapidly searching up a video on her tablet, "OKAY, Forgot what I said before! We are watching RWBY… RIGHT NOW…"

 "What? But…"

 "RIGHT NOW…"

 "…"

 "…"

She began loading the first episode for Rachel to watch.

"Okay… how is this supposed to help me become a star?"

"IT'S NOT… IT'S JUST MY FAVORITE SHOW BUT THIS ONE DUMBASS I KNEW BACK IN THE DAY REFUSED TO WATCH IT UNTIL YEARS AFTER I STOPPED TALKING TO HIM… AND NOW HE SAYS IT'S HIS FAVORITE SHOW… THE NERVE…"

 "…"

 "…"

 "Honestly understandable…"

"PLUS, YOU CAN COSPLAY THE SHIP WITH ME… that is bound to garner likes on Instagram!"

 "Uhhh…"

Meanwhile:

 "Achoo…"

"Hey, what the heck! Are you sick?!"

Calypso pulled her arm away from me.

 "Don't tell me AHHHHH…"

"Splatted by TbrushofJustice" appeared on the screen.

"Wow! Nice going…" She sighed taking the L from what appeared to be the game "Splatoon".

"Sorry I… A… Achoo!" I let out another sneeze, "I just smell something nefarious in the area."

"What? What does that even mean?"

"It means we should go to bed soon before we encounter something nefarious," I said going over to turn off her console.

"HEY, What the heck… I said one more game!"

"You said one more game 3 rounds ago."

 "…"

 "…"

"Okay, how about to unwind… let's listen to some music perhaps!"

 "Grr…"

I took out my tablet and began playing some music out of it.

"Maybe some classic music vibes like Mozart or Chopin! That'll really put you in a sort of winddown where…Calypso?"

It appeared the classic music was super effective as the young adult girl already in her pajamas appeared fast asleep in her bed.

"Oh, alright then!" I said beginning to fly into her closet to sleep myself, "that was easy! Time for… wait a minute…"

As I was about to close the closet, I noticed a slight movement from Calypso. With my suspicions raised I flew over to Calypso who had turned to her side and sure enough…

"I thought I heard something!"

Quickly, I snatched the Gameboy Advanced SP she must have kept hidden under her mattress or something from her hand.

"NO POKEMON UNLESS IT'S ART RELATED UNDERSTAND…"

She looked saddened as she looked up at me about to cry.

"But…"

"That doesn't work on me noob…" I pointed to the Eevee figurine she had on her shelf, "Calypso… did you know…"

"NO PLEASE… I THOUGHT WE ALREADY DID THIS BIT…"

"Yes well… you know what? The person that created that copypasta is an artist who I respect!"

"…"

"And thus, you now understand the power of original art! Because… did you know Calypso… in terms of…"

"OKAY OKAY UNDERSTOOD… I'm going to sleep!" she said turning to face me this time as she closed her eyes to sleep. Heh heh… works every time.
