Chapter 72 - Chapter 73: Nanami

There were many tourists in Okinawa in the summer, especially during the summer break, there would always be many students from wealthy families who chose to come here for vacation.

For example, Nanami. At this time, he was only in his early teens, and the only reason he came here was to spend a long and boring vacation.

Unlike other children, Nanami had shown a maturity and indifference far beyond his peers since he was a child.

He had no interest in most of the things that other children were keen on: anime, games, soccer, pachinko...

All kinds of things that seemed interesting in his parents' eyes were extremely boring in Nanami's eyes.

His parents were also a little helpless about this. They had also seen a psychologist, but the treatment plan given by the doctor was to let Nanami go out and see more, and try not to stay at home reading books all the time.

Other than that, he did not give any meaningful treatment plan.

For his parents' behavior of frequently taking him to see a psychologist, Nanami had also tried to communicate with them, but unfortunately, his parents did not think that a ten-year-old child could give more effective advice than a professional psychologist.

And after many fruitless communications, Nanami also gave up the hope of being able to communicate effectively with his parents. He simply accepted their treatment advice, thinking that since he could not resist, he would just act, and even if it was just a pretense, it would be good to make his parents a little happy.

And leaving that place in Tokyo was actually something that Nanami himself was willing to do.

When he was very young, his grandfather had once told him while stroking his head that he was different from his parents. He had a talent that his parents did not have. He could see those disgusting and ugly monsters.

His grandfather told him that when he saw those monsters, he must, must try to avoid their gaze and not make eye contact with them.

Originally, when he was abroad, the number of those things was not much, and Nanami could barely ignore their existence.

But when his parents decided to return to Japan, and when Nanami saw the Cursed Spirits that were almost everywhere, his personality began to become more and more withdrawn and silent.

For those things, his grandfather just told him not to touch them, let alone try to eliminate them. He just needed to ignore their existence and not care about them.

It was still okay in Denmark, but the number of Cursed Spirits here in Japan was already so many that it made Nanami feel afraid.

Every time he saw the monsters that followed his parents home every day, he became more and more resistant to everything in the outside world. The disgust and fear of those strange things made him completely detached from the normal childlike fun of a child.

The reason why he came out this time was also because Nanami felt that there should be fewer Cursed Spirits in Okinawa than in Tokyo.

The sun on the beach was a little dazzling. Nanami sat under a sunshade, a little bored. The number of Cursed Spirits in Okinawa was about the same as he had expected. Although it was not as exaggerated as in Tokyo, it was still three or four times more than in Denmark.

But at least... the two Cursed Spirits that had been following his parents in Tokyo had not continued to follow them.

Nanami had a great psychological shadow over the two Cursed Spirits that had been following his parents. Although he thought that he had pretended well most of the time, he had also exposed a hint of fear or horror in front of the two Cursed Spirits.

And those two Cursed Spirits seemed... to have caught his gaze.

They knew that he could see them, but they did not expose it. Instead, they continued to follow his parents with an almost playful attitude. And as expected, the health of Nanami's parents was also declining visibly day by day.

He wanted to save his parents. He had asked to return to Denmark more than once, and he wanted to seek his grandfather's help.

But his parents had been rejecting his request on the grounds that they were too busy with work.

Under his final persistence, he finally saw a glimmer of victory with the result that he would go to Denmark immediately after Okinawa ended.

As for whether his grandfather would really have a way, Nanami was actually not sure, but this was already the best way he could think of.

He was still just a child now, and he didn't know what method to use to save adults at all.

This was not something that should be considered at his age...

His parents were currently chatting on the beach. Nanami glanced at his parents, whose complexion had improved a little, and a faint smile appeared on his face as well.

However, the sunlight reflected by the sea was a little dazzling for Nanami. He turned his head and looked at the road behind him.

He liked to watch the cars coming and going on the road. When a car whizzed past in front of him, there would be a feeling that time was being crushed under the wheels.

Nanami didn't know why he had this strange idea, but he just liked it.

When a black car drove over from a distance, for some reason, Nanami suddenly had an indescribable strange feeling.

It was as if there was an unknown existence on the car that was constantly attracting his attention, making it almost impossible for his eyes to move away from the car.

The car was not fast, and the window was opened by about two-thirds.

Through the car window, Nanami could see that there was a young man about his age sitting in the passenger seat.

And that young man seemed to have noticed him too. He didn't know if it was his illusion, but Nanami always felt that the young man's gaze towards him revealed a hint of slightly familiar surprise.

As if he knew him.

The next moment, the car suddenly made a turn and stopped not far away. The hazard lights flashed. In Nanami's somewhat confused and puzzled gaze, the young man in the passenger seat now got out and ran towards him.

"You can see those things too, right?"

Under the summer sun, the first sentence the young man said to him was something that Nanami would remember for the rest of his life.

He didn't know why the other party could accurately say his biggest secret, but out of an instinct of self-preservation, Nanami did not speak, but looked at the young man in front of him and lowered his head in silence.

And the other party did not get angry because of his rudeness. He just smiled, then took out a strange-looking dark yellow piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to him:

"I know what you're worried about, but it's okay. Wear this piece of paper well, it can help you resist those things a little. I live in that [Renchoku Apartment] at the end of this road. You can go there to find me."
