Chapter 106 - Chapter 105: The Approaching Storm

She had originally planned to use the excuse of forgetting something upstairs to go back with them when they were about to leave, but these two didn't give her a chance to speak.

Because she had said she was going to see Friar Malfu, Lucy couldn't just follow them back directly; that would seem too deliberate.

She could only rush towards the Monastery to arrange for others to follow Ilena.

After entering the stairwell, Ilena saw Kanna standing at the corner of the landing, still carrying the box. Upon seeing Ilena, she looked behind her.

"Don't worry, no one followed, but others will likely arrive soon. What did you find?" Ilena's expression instantly turned very serious.

"At first, I suspected Dona was strange, but after getting closer, I found it wasn't as I thought. Among the others, Lucy definitely has problems, and Abbot Green also seems to have significant issues. I haven't had much interaction with the rest, so it's hard to say. Friar Malfu seems to disagree with these people in some aspects; we could try to communicate with him," Kanna whispered as they walked upstairs.

"But we must also be careful. The enemies we face are more insidious and cunning than we imagine. Friar Malfu could also be putting on an act, a bait thrown to us." Thinking of the mad tactics of the Abyssal Church she had faced, although she didn't know the situation in Rock Bay Town yet, she vaguely felt it must be related to the Abyssal Church.

"Also, from the situation just now, it seems only some people in this Monastery are abnormal. But speaking of it, the Abbot of this Monastery hasn't changed in twenty years, and you Inquisitors didn't notice anything?" Through her senses, there was no one eavesdropping around the stairwell, so Kanna's words became bolder.

Ilena was helpless about this. "Compared to the vast Iberia, Inquisitors are like tiny grains of sand in the ocean. Rarely do Inquisitors stay in a certain city for many days. Therefore, most abnormalities are reported by the local churches and Monasteries when they notice them, and then the Holy See arranges whether to send Inquisitors or the Retribution Army to investigate based on these reports."

"So if the enemy contaminates the church, it's equivalent to your eyes in Rock Bay Town disappearing," Kanna said, speechless.

Ilena also realized the serious loophole in this. As Kanna said, if the local church was occupied by the enemy, then unless Inquisitors passing through here noticed an anomaly, this place would become a paradise for the enemy.

She decided that after this incident, she must report this matter as the most important issue to Saint Carmen. The thought of a large number of Abyssal Church remnants possibly hiding somewhere, At large, right under their noses, made her feel a chill all over.

After going upstairs and seeing Ilena's dazed expression, Kanna shook her head. Iberia's problems could only be solved by the people of Iberia themselves. The most she could do in this incident was to grill all the audacious seafood, while other places still had to be dealt with by these Inquisitors themselves.

On the other side, after leaving the Monastery, Kal'tsit discovered she was being followed. The other party was very vigilant and numerous; she felt dozens of different gazes on her on just one road.

She gently exhaled. Kal'tsit walked through the town without changing her expression, but her heart was in turmoil. The number of Abyssal Church followers in this small town was far more serious than she had imagined.

As someone who had experienced many things, regarding the monsters in the deep sea and their situation, aside from those Aegir Abyssal Hunters, even Iberia's Inquisitors didn't understand them as well as she did. Precisely because of this, she was even more curious about what was different here that would attract so many Abyssal Church followers.

Soon, she arrived at her destination, beneath the lighthouse of Rock Bay Town.

Looking up at the still brightly shining lighthouse, Kal'tsit twisted her shoulder, hoping in her heart that things hadn't reached their worst point yet.

After walking through the open gate, Kal'tsit looked around. Aside from being empty, there was nothing different. She continued up the stairs, and upon reaching the top, she saw an elderly Liberi standing in front of the lighthouse's transceiver.

"Hello, are you the Tower Keeper of this lighthouse?"

"Tower Keeper, I haven't heard that term in a long time. Nowadays, people call me the lighthouse administrator..." Under the bright light of the lighthouse, a charming glow appeared in the elderly Liberi's eyes, as if recalling something.

Seeing the Tower Keeper turn around, Kal'tsit performed an ancient Iberian salute.

"Fifty years ago, everyone was proud to be Iberian. We had an invincible fleet, a powerful military, and both Bolivar and Laterano had to submit to Iberia's technology. But after one disaster, Iberia was no longer what it once was. Don't laugh, but this is the first time I've seen this etiquette since that disaster. I thought the ancient Iberian salute had been buried in the sea with that disaster."

The old man tremblingly returned Kal'tsit's salute.

Next, Kal'tsit inquired about the situation in Rock Bay Town, and the old man recounted it in detail.

"Then do you know if there are any cultists from the Abyssal Church in the city?" Kal'tsit suddenly asked.

The old man fell silent for a long time after hearing Kal'tsit's words.

"Rock Bay Town is very dangerous, you should leave quickly!"

Although he didn't directly answer Kal'tsit's question in the end, he showed his stance.

"An Inquisitor came with me this time; she is currently waiting for news at the Monastery. You should know what it means for an Inquisitor to come. Saint Carmen has already set his gaze here; not a single cultist in the city will escape."

Kal'tsit was not angered by his words but spoke calmly.

Upon hearing Kal'tsit's words, the other party was surprised rather than pleased.

"The Monastery! How could you go to the Monastery! That's their stronghold! Your companion is in danger, hurry and leave, or it will be too late for you too!"

His face turned somewhat pale, and his tone was very agitated.

"Don't worry, old sir, my companion is much stronger than you imagine. If there really is a problem, it's hard to say who will be alive in the end!"

Standing on the edge of the tall tower, feeling the sea breeze, Rock Bay Town was spread out beneath her, and even the distant Monastery was clearly visible.

Kal'tsit looked at the gloomy weather outside. This dark weather was like the ominous currents flowing through Rock Bay Town. Suddenly, Kal'tsit recalled a Yan poem:

"The wind fills the tower, portending a mountain storm."

This line could perfectly describe the current situation in Rock Bay Town.
