Chapter 179 - Chapter 178: Tragic Friendship

Upon hearing his friend's shout, Mephisto immediately prepared to retreat.

For him, the only person who could make him willingly stop and listen was Sasha, who had always been by his side.

However, he still underestimated Kanna's speed. After knowing Mephisto was nearby, Kanna's interest was piqued. Anyway, the team had already been discovered, so concealment was out of the question. The ultimate goal was to safely get everyone out.

Patriot, on the other side of the city, raised his head and looked in that direction, then adjusted the spear in his hand.

"Old Fogey, what are you doing?" Just as he was about to move, Frostnova's voice came from nearby.

"The enemy, they are over there. We should go!" Patriot looked at the lightning streaking across the sky, and a rare surge of fighting spirit rose in his eyes. His body was nearing its end, and he didn't expect to find a mysterious and powerful opponent so close at hand. How could he not feel joy?

"Don't forget Talulah divided the areas. That's Mephisto's jurisdiction. Last time, when you took in a few Refugees from there, Mephisto complained to Talulah about it. Talulah said we should just take care of our own areas, so why get involved in things over there?"

Although Frostnova's words showed dissatisfaction with Mephisto and Talulah's decisions, having followed Patriot for so long, how could she not guess his thoughts? And precisely because she guessed his thoughts, she couldn't let Patriot go. After all, the continuous thunderbolts falling in the distance clearly indicated a very powerful opponent was there, and she didn't want Patriot to confront these mysterious strong enemies.

"Mephisto's strength is insufficient. If we do not go, we will surely fail. We can accept punishment, but Reunion Movement cannot fail…" Patriot's will was extremely firm. He didn't believe that Mephisto and Faust alone could handle an enemy capable of summoning such immense lightning. Although Mephisto's recent actions had greatly disappointed him, compared to Reunion Movement's plan, he could accept criticism from Talulah.

"Sigh~ I knew I couldn't stop you. But Old Fogey, if you're going, you have to take me with you. You don't trust that kid Mephisto, and I don't trust you either!"

She knew from the start that Patriot's decision would be difficult to change, so her hope was just to stall him for a bit. If it really came down to it, she would go with him. With their combined strength, plus the Shieldguards and Yeti Squad, she believed that even against a powerful opponent, they would have a fighting chance.

Patriot looked at Frostnova's stubborn little face and nodded, "Alright!"

Just as the decision was made, Talulah's voice suddenly came through the communicator nearby… Just before that, Kanna had rushed to the corner of the street, and upon turning, she discovered a familiar white-haired youth retreating amidst his "flock."

"I found you! Sorry, but in this play, the dragon is the hunter, and you are the prey!" As Kanna's voice reached Mephisto's ears, several bolts of lightning descended from the sky, striking Mephisto's position.

In that instant, Mephisto's sixth sense screamed, making his hair stand on end. He instinctively rolled to the ground, and the flock around him jumped up, shielding him.

"No!" Faust, not far away, watched the pillar-thick lightning strike from the sky, letting out a desperate cry.

Looking at the charred bodies piled on the ground, indistinguishable from each other, Faust's mind shattered. His eyes red, he looked at Kanna standing there, raised his crossbow, and fired a bolt imbued with Originium Arts, carrying his fury, towards Kanna.

Kanna was looking in Mephisto's direction with some dissatisfaction, not expecting her attack to be blocked. Others didn't know, but she saw it clearly: in the instant the lightning was about to strike, the flock shielded Mephisto. Although those on top were mostly incinerated by the lightning, Mephisto at the very bottom, though he would be shocked, would not be in mortal danger.

Just as she was about to go and move the bodies on the ground to pull Mephisto out for another round of electrotherapy, several crossbow bolts shot towards her position.

Feeling the killing intent nearby, Kanna didn't dodge. She opened her small hand towards Faust's direction, and powerful electricity burst forth in her hand, forming an electric field around her.

When the crossbow bolts reached her, they were immediately attracted by the electromagnetic force of the electric field and deflected to the ground.

In Faust's eyes, Kanna merely opened her hand, and those few arrows that were sure to hit were forcibly redirected, missing their target and causing no harm to the killer.

However, his friend's "death" made him lose the calm and judgment of a sniper. He didn't stop but continued to load arrows and shoot them at Kanna. To ensure power and accuracy, he completely disregarded the damage that using Originium Arts would cause to his body, continuously imbuing the arrows with spells.

"Muda muda!"

Kanna felt no threat from Faust's desperate efforts. She merely easily caught the few arrows he shot and continued to advance towards Mephisto's direction.

In Faust's eyes, not only had the other party killed his friend, but it also seemed she wasn't even going to spare the corpse. How could this not leave him both shocked and enraged? He shot his arrows even faster, blood starting to seep from his eyes and nose, yet he still didn't stop his actions.

"If you don't stop, you'll die before you even hurt me." If Mephisto's downfall was due to Ursus's injustice and oppression towards the Infected, then Faust, in Kanna's eyes, was the most unforgivable accomplice in his descent. When Mephisto became increasingly extreme, as his friend, he didn't think about how to bring him back. Instead, out of a ridiculous sense of guilt, he condoned his actions and even actively cleaned up the messes he made, to mend the small wound in his own heart.

He was indeed devoted to Mephisto, but what about the ordinary civilians who died by Mephisto's hand and actions, and those Infected he converted into his "flock"? Were their lives not lives?

Therefore, Kanna had no intention of letting Faust go either, but getting rid of Mephisto was more important to her than Faust.

"As long as I live, I will absolutely not let you touch a single hair on Ino." After emptying the arrows on him, Faust pulled out a dagger from his Pregnant and charged at Kanna without hesitation.

Kanna's eyes showed no emotion for this friendship. She reached out and firmly grabbed his wrist, then threw him towards Mephisto's direction, "Want to die with your friend? Fine!"
