"Why do you suddenly want to go to the City of Slaughter?"Inside the Spirit Hall, Bibi Dong looked at Chu Bai in surprise.
She had once been to the City of Slaughter herself and naturally knew how terrifying that place was. Although she believed in Chu Bai's strength, in a place like that—where one's spirit abilities were completely sealed—wanting to walk out alive was far from easy.
She was very clear that part of the reason Chu Bai possessed such immense power was because of his exceptionally strong spirit abilities.
For instance, his second martial soul—its first spirit ability alone contained terrifying offensive power capable of directly threatening even a Titled Douluo. As for his second spirit ability, Chrono Bell of Time, it could be said to be absolutely invincible.
"My strength has been improving rather quickly recently. I need to find a place to temper myself," Chu Bai said calmly.
"Besides, by the time I return from the City of Slaughter, it should be around the start of the Spirit Master Tournament. After the tournament ends, the plan to unify the Douluo Continent can begin."
Chu Bai smiled faintly. "Teacher, you wouldn't refuse me, would you?"
Bibi Dong hesitated for a moment before sighing helplessly.
"If I refuse you, wouldn't that make me someone who hinders my disciple's progress? Since you are determined to go, I'll allow it."
Her tone softened. "Xiaobai, the City of Slaughter is not a place for jokes. Once you're there, remember this—don't trust anyone. The only person you can rely on there is yourself."
"I'll arrange for Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo to wait for your return near the City of Slaughter. That way, there'll be someone to watch over you."
Chu Bai shook his head. "Every time, I trouble the two elders to follow me—it's a bit too much. I'll bring that old poison instead."
"Poison Douluo… that's acceptable," Bibi Dong said after a brief pause. "Since that's the case, when will you depart?"
"As soon as possible," Chu Bai replied in a deep voice.
"While I'm away, you all will head to the Divine Realm for your trials," Chu Bai instructed Zhu Zhuqing. "Once you reach the bottleneck at level fifty, if I haven't returned yet, the two elders can take you to hunt spirit beasts."
"After all, with your bodies strengthened by the immortal herbs, your chances of successfully absorbing higher-aged spirit rings are much greater."
Zhu Zhuqing silently nodded and said softly, "Then… be careful. I'll wait here for your return."
"Don't worry. It won't take long. I wouldn't bear to let you wait too long anyway," Chu Bai comforted her with a smile.
Though his relationship with Zhu Zhuqing had progressed a bit fast—catching him somewhat off guard—after thinking it through, he made up his mind. He couldn't let Zhu Zhuqing wait too long for him.
This promise—he would fulfill it.
"Say, Holy Son, what kind of place is this City of Slaughter you're heading to?" Dugu Bo asked curiously.
Chu Bai briefly explained the situation of the City of Slaughter to him. After listening, Dugu Bo's face showed astonishment. "I didn't expect such a place to even exist! You really plan to go?"
"Yes. Even though I won't be able to use spirit abilities there, I'm confident," Chu Bai replied with a smile. Then he glanced strangely at Dugu Bo. "By the way, Old Poison, why does your spirit power feel so unstable? Feels like you're about to explode."
Dugu Bo rolled his eyes. "You just can't wait for this old man to explode, can you?"
"In truth, it's because of that immortal herb you gave me. It truly caused my martial soul to evolve—it's become the Nether Serpent Emperor. However, my cultivation is too high, so the transformation process requires time."
He sighed helplessly. "Which means, for now, I might not even be able to exert fifty percent of my strength…"
"And after the evolution completes, how strong will you be?" Chu Bai asked curiously. Dugu Yan's evolution hadn't made much visible difference due to her lower strength—but Dugu Bo was another matter. A martial soul evolution for someone at his level would definitely cause a huge transformation.
"I don't know," Dugu Bo chuckled. "Who knows, maybe I'll break through straight to level ninety-five. When that happens, I won't be afraid of that damn Chrysanthemum anymore!"
The two of them traveled for an entire day according to the coordinates Bibi Dong had given them, finally arriving at the location of the City of Slaughter.
It appeared to be a small town—but it gave no warmth, only an unsettling chill that seemed to rise from beneath their feet.
"The ground here feels strange… as if there's a huge cavity below," Dugu Bo muttered with a frown, sensing the oddness.
"The real City of Slaughter lies beneath," Chu Bai nodded.
"How do we get down there? There must be some kind of mechanism," Dugu Bo said, scanning their surroundings. But the town was dead silent—no signs of life at all. Even as a Titled Douluo, this oppressive atmosphere made him uneasy.
"I don't have time to search for hidden mechanisms," Chu Bai said dismissively. "Old Poison, follow the map to the exit and wait for me there. This trip might take some time. You can use it to stabilize your martial soul's evolution."
"Alright. I'll wait for you there. Just don't go and die inside," Dugu Bo replied before leaping into the air and vanishing into the distance.
Once Dugu Bo left, Chu Bai summoned the Pangu Axe. The ground beneath his feet instantly split open as his vast soul power erupted outward. Chu Bai leapt into the air, swinging the Pangu Axe down with full force!
Boom!
The entire town trembled violently.
A massive pit opened up in the ground. The noise immediately attracted several figures.
Their eyes were lifeless—like emotionless puppets—but now they all turned toward Chu Bai with hostility.
Chu Bai's figure suddenly flickered, vanishing from midair. The next instant, one of the figures had his skull crushed in Chu Bai's grip.
The sound of heads bursting echoed like watermelons hitting the ground—splattering fragments and viscous fluids all around, staining Chu Bai's robes. He looked as though he had just emerged from hell itself.
"What a nuisance."
He pulled out a black cloak and draped it over his shoulders, then leapt straight into the gaping hole, disappearing from sight.
As he fell, Chu Bai could feel himself descending rapidly. After some time, his feet finally touched solid ground. The aura of chaos around him flared as protection while he advanced swiftly through the darkness.
Boom!
Suddenly, a group of armored figures appeared before him. All wore pitch-black armor, and the leader sat atop a warhorse, exuding a mighty presence.
"Blocking my path… isn't a wise choice," Chu Bai said coldly, gripping the Pangu Axe with one hand.
A flash of cold light—The entire group exploded into pieces, blood splattering across the ground.
