Chapter 45 - Chapter 045: I Feel Like I Could Die at Any Time

"Wind Style: Vacuum Wave!"

"Secret Technique: Parasitic Insects!"

"Chaos Cloak Sword Technique!"

Danzo and his two guards were trapped, but they weren't about to sit still and die.

Each unleashed their techniques, trying to push back the suffocating pollen cloud.

The jutsu tore through the mist, but the effect was limited.

Against the invisible poison drifting through the air, their attacks were nothing more than a temporary delay.

"Lord Danzo, this is bad. If this continues, we'll all be infected. Even if we hold our breath, our bodies won't last long," the Aburame guard warned, sensing the threat through his insects.

Below, the earth was already swallowed by gigantic trees, leaving no solid ground to stand on.

Above, the sky was choked with poisonous pollen.

Worse still, the isolation barrier kept everything sealed inside—no escape, no dispersal.

The longer this dragged on, the tighter the noose grew.

"Lord Danzo, we should retreat!" the swordsman urged. "By now, reinforcements should be outside the barrier. Even if we defeat Itsuki, breaking out will be impossible. Better to retreat and strike again later!"

Danzo's face was dark, his silence heavy. The swordsman pressed, giving him the step he needed.

"Retreat," Danzo growled at last, teeth clenched.

The guards nodded, immediately forming hand seals. Together, they fired beams of chakra toward the barrier's edge.

But before their strikes could land, the barrier itself trembled.

Bang!

It shattered into glowing fragments that scattered into the sky.

The barrier had been broken—from the outside.

Fresh air rushed in. The poisonous pollen dispersed, thinning the deadly haze around them.

"Go!" Danzo wasted no time.

He barked the order and shot forward, his guards close behind. The mission had failed. Staying any longer would only bring disaster.

Itsuki noticed instantly. His chakra flared, and dozens of vines lashed out, whipping toward them to entangle and drag them down.

But the distance was too great. The attacks lacked force, and Danzo slipped away.

"Who?"

"Stop them!"

Shouts echoed from the distance. Clashes rang out briefly—metal on metal, bursts of chakra—but soon silence fell.

Danzo had escaped. Whether his identity was exposed remained unknown.

Itsuki exhaled softly. He hadn't expected to kill Danzo today.

But the more trouble he caused, the better. He had plenty of time. Time always favored him.

Whoosh. Whoosh. Whoosh.

Dozens of figures appeared, racing toward him. Their masks gave them away: Anbu, Konoha's hidden blades.

Before they reached him, Itsuki's strength collapsed. His chakra burned out, his body trembled, and he crumpled to the ground, barely breathing.

"Anbu uniform—he's one of ours!"

Several Anbu surrounded him, one kneeling to check. "Excessive chakra consumption. No external injuries, but mental trauma can't be ruled out."

Trailing behind, Anko Mitarashi arrived. She compared his appearance to the group chat's video feed.

The uniform matched. The mask stayed in place—his Anbu identity couldn't be revealed publicly.

But she needed no further confirmation.

At that moment, the Third Hokage arrived, flanked by his men.

He studied Itsuki, who struggled to rise and salute. His voice was deep, steady: "What happened here?"

Itsuki's tone was weak but clear. "I returned from a mission… was ambushed on the way back. The enemy wore Anbu gear, but their uniforms were slightly different. Their leader was bandaged—his face and right arm. He had two guards. One commanded insects. The other wielded a sword."

"They demanded I serve the bandaged man. If not… they would erase me."

He spoke briefly, avoiding detail. Enough for Sarutobi Hiruzen to confirm his identity. Enough to let everyone around him guess the truth.

The Hokage's eyes darkened, but he hid his fury well. "I'll have you taken to the hospital for examination. When you've recovered, you'll give me the full report. I promise you… you'll have justice."

"Lord Hokage, allow me!" Anko stepped forward.

She bowed quickly. "This happened on my patrol route. The responsibility is mine. Please let me escort him."

Of course, the truth was simpler—because it was Itsuki. If it had been anyone else, she wouldn't have volunteered so fiercely.

The Hokage gave a small nod.

He ordered his Anbu to cleanse the battlefield. As he studied the torn earth, his heart grew heavy.

The terrain had been utterly reshaped. Such power—this was Wood Release.

That Itsuki had achieved this after only a short time training with Tenzo was… unthinkable. Even Danzo had failed against him.

Hiruzen's resolve hardened. He would protect and cultivate Itsuki's talent. Danzo must never lay a finger on him again.

The Anbu too noticed. The traces were undeniable—Wood Release.

Shock rippled silently among them. But they were loyal. They knew when to hold their tongues.

Meanwhile, Anko bent low, scooping Itsuki up in a princess carry.

She sprinted toward Konoha Hospital, moving with surprising gentleness despite her speed.

"How do you feel?" she asked, fighting the urge to lift his mask.

Itsuki's voice rasped weakly, his head against her chest. "I… don't have any strength. My whole body aches. I feel like… I could die any moment…"

Of course, inwardly he noted with a sly grin: Mature women really are more attractive… and damn, that figure…

Anko didn't notice his thoughts. She only gritted her teeth, moving faster. "Hold on! We're almost there. I won't let anything happen to you!"

After all, he was the harem chat group's owner. Perhaps the very reason it existed at all. She wouldn't let him fall.

[Ding! Congratulations to group member Mitarashi Anko. Group level upgraded from LV0 to LV1. All attributes increased by 200%!]

The system's voice rang out.

Anko's eyes widened as power flooded her body. Her speed doubled instantly, her leaps leaving streaks of afterimages across the rooftops.

"So, this is… the boost effect?" she whispered in awe.
