Chapter 71 - Chapter 070: Permanently Improving the Quality of Tenzo’s Wood Release

The next morning, Itsuki was stunned when he saw that the backyard had been completely renovated—exactly the way he had imagined it.

Tenzo was sprawled on the ground, looking gaunt and half-dead, like he'd been squeezed dry overnight.

In just a single night, he looked like he had lost an alarming amount of weight.

"Teacher Tenzo, don't tell me you stayed up all night working on this?" Itsuki asked, wide-eyed.

One thing was certain: Tenzo had gotten carried away again.

But why? Itsuki couldn't even remember what he'd said to make him push this hard.

"Cough, cough!" Tenzo wheezed weakly. "It's fine. I just wanted to finish quickly so I could focus on other duties with peace of mind. Don't look at me like I'm exhausted… I'm not tired at all. I just need a short rest."

Itsuki was speechless. Why did this feel like watching an overworked employee being squeezed dry by a capitalist boss?

"Seriously, I'm fine!" Tenzo forced himself upright with a lopsided grin. But after two steps, he stumbled again.

Looking apologetic, he added, "But I might not be able to prepare breakfast for you today. Sorry. I'll make it up next time."

Itsuki sighed, shook his head, and supported Tenzo by the arm. He channeled his wood-natured chakra into him.

Since Itsuki had once saved Kana from chakra exhaustion using the same method, he figured it would help Tenzo as well.

Sure enough, Tenzo's condition began to recover at a speed visible to the naked eye.

His fatigue wasn't completely erased, but the weakness vanished, and his strength stabilized.

Though mental exhaustion couldn't be fixed so easily, Tenzo looked significantly better.

He clenched his fists, marveling at the strength returning to his body. "You can actually use chakra this way? This is almost like medical ninjutsu!"

He knew Itsuki was using Wood Release, but his own Wood Release had never shown such properties.

"I discovered it by accident," Itsuki admitted with a smile. "Maybe it's because my chakra has more vitality. By infusing it into you, I can forcefully replenish your physical energy. But it's definitely not as good as your own natural recovery."

"Not only that!" Tenzo shook his head, his eyes widening. "I can feel it—your chakra makes my Wood Release react. It's like it's alive, becoming more active inside me. In this state, if I use Wood Release, it'll be much stronger than usual. Your chakra actually enhances my techniques!"

Itsuki blinked. He hadn't thought about it that way, but now it made sense.

"How long does this effect last?" he asked. "If I keep transferring chakra to you, can it permanently improve the quality of your Wood Release?"

Because honestly—saying Tenzo's Wood Release was "the same as the First Hokage's" was absolute bullshit.

Hashirama Senju wasn't just strong because of Wood Release alone. His monstrous chakra reserves, Asura's reincarnation chakra, and genetic lineage all amplified the nature transformation.

Hashirama's Wood Release was more than ninjutsu—it had absorbed aspects of the divine tree itself.

Tenzo, on the other hand, had only been implanted with Hashirama's cells.

What he inherited was a diluted version, incomplete and limited by his own natural talent.

To put it bluntly: Tenzo's Wood Release was a castrated knockoff compared to Hashirama's full-powered masterpiece.

Even if Tenzo had enough chakra to summon a giant wooden construct, it would shatter instantly against Hashirama's version of the same technique.

That was the difference in quality.

(PS: Whether or not this matches canon doesn't matter—this is my setting, so don't argue!)

Tenzo seemed to catch Itsuki's drift. He closed his eyes and carefully examined the condition of his body.

Moments later, he opened them, excitement blazing. "Aside from the chakra you used to stabilize me, the rest of your chakra is still in my system—it hasn't dissipated much at all."

"If I'm in battle, I could use your chakra as a one-time boost, like a consumable. But if I let it sit in my body, it slowly fuses with my own chakra, slightly improving the quality of my Wood Release."

"As for how effective it is, we'll need repeated testing. But one thing's certain—it really can permanently improve my Wood Release!"

Itsuki's eyes narrowed in thought.

Was this possible only because Tenzo had Hashirama's cells? Or was it simply a unique trait of Itsuki's chakra—something that could work on anyone with compatible abilities?

He decided he'd have to test on a few more people in the future.

Still, seeing Tenzo's joy, Itsuki felt pleased as well.

"In that case, I'll transfer chakra to you regularly," Itsuki said. "Who knows—maybe we can raise your Wood Release to the same level as the First Hokage himself."

That way, Itsuki could enjoy Tenzo's care and loyalty with peace of mind.

Give and take—relationships lasted longer when both sides benefitted.

Tenzo couldn't stop smiling, his mind already running wild with the possibilities.

Still, he waved his hands modestly. "How could I ever compete with Lord First? Just having my Wood Release respond to your chakra is already a miracle. Anything more is just profit."

Since Itsuki didn't suffer from giving away a little chakra, Tenzo happily accepted.

But he did make one request: "Please don't tell anyone about this yet. Not until we're sure of the results. Otherwise, the higher-ups might… use you like a test subject."

Itsuki understood. Even without Tenzo asking, he would have been cautious.

After all, he had already made an appointment with Kurenai Yuhi to study genjutsu.

Leaving a Wood Clone to handle his Anbu check-in with Tenzo, Itsuki himself made his way to Training Ground 8.

According to the chat group logs, Team 8 should be gathering there.

Of course, even genin didn't have D-rank missions every single day. And after their life-or-death battle yesterday, they were given downtime for training and recovery.

When Itsuki arrived, only Hinata was present. The others hadn't come yet.

She was practicing her Gentle Fist against a wooden post.

Occasionally, her fingertips shot out thin streams of chakra, striking the target like a laser.

But the beams were weak, inconsistent, and unstable.

"She's trying to imitate the Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven Guard?" Itsuki recognized it immediately.

In the last future video, he had fabricated Hinata awakening the Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists and the Guardian Eight Trigrams technique from the anime.

That technique fit her nature perfectly, resonating with her instantly.

Unfortunately, the timeline hadn't caught up yet. Without the same growth she'd experienced in the original, she couldn't grasp it so easily.

Still, the attempt alone was proof—Hinata was changing.
