Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Shadow in the Night

I stared at the message, my heart racing with fear. Who was writing these notes? And what did they want from me? I crumpled the paper in my hand, feeling a sense of determination. I was going to get to the bottom of this.

As I walked back to my car, I noticed a figure watching me from across the street. Tall, imposing, and shrouded in shadows. I couldn't make out their face, but I knew they were staring at me.

I quickened my pace, my heart pounding in my chest. I reached my car and locked myself in, starting the engine and speeding away from the scene.

But the feeling of being watched lingered. I kept looking in the rearview mirror, expecting to see the figure behind me. And then, I saw it. A dark shape, looming large in the distance.

I floored it, my heart racing with fear. I didn't dare look back, fearing what I might see. The roads were deserted, and I felt like I was driving through a nightmare.

Suddenly, my car sputtered and died. I coasted to the side of the road, my heart sinking. I was stranded.

I got out of the car, looking around. The darkness seemed to press in on me from all sides. I was alone, and I knew I had to get out of there.

As I started to walk, I heard footsteps behind me. Heavy, deliberate footsteps. I quickened my pace, but the footsteps kept pace with me.

I started to run, my breath coming in ragged gasps. The footsteps grew louder, closer. I could feel eyes on me, boring into my skin.

And then, everything went black.

When I came to, I was lying on the side of the road. My head was throbbing, and I was alone. The darkness seemed to recede, and I stumbled to my feet.

As I looked around, I saw a figure in the distance. A figure that looked like me. I stumbled towards it, calling out. But as I got closer, I realized it wasn't me at all.

It was Emily.
