Chapter 41 - Adrian is Attacked

Adrian's POV

The office lights flickered for the third time in ten minutes, a pale warning that even the city's grid is sometimes unstable. 

I barely noticed, immersed in data streaming across the holo-display. Bids, asset transfers, and psychic-sensitive acquisitions flashed past. One wrong move, and years of groundwork could unravel.

And then I saw it, some small anomalies.

Someone was manipulating the bids, threading precision into chaos. Is this the work of a rival company or a psychic infiltrator? 

I didn't yet know. My gut throbbed, psychic whispers tingling at the edges of my awareness.

I can also sense Elena, though miles away; her link prickles a nerve. My chest tightened. I hated feeling this… tether. Makes one vulnerable.

I leaned back, fingers brushing the edge of the holo-table. The office was soundproofed, layered in protective enchantments, yet the psychic tremor persisted, like a shadow breathing just outside my consciousness.

They're watching.
