Chapter 55 - The Interrogation

In the control room, Max stood at the edge of the holo-table, his expression grim, fingers brushing across the digital map.

"He's here," Max said, voice clipped. "Gavril Dane. His last detected movement was at the Edge District, industrial sector at the north perimeter of the docks. 

He's been moving fast, leaving psychic residues in a zigzag pattern. He knows he's being hunted."

I didn't answer immediately. My mind tracked every pulse, every flicker of his presence through the psychic echoes that lingered like smoke. 

The Veil had trained him well; the operative was a predator, and Elena had just barely escaped from his claws.

"Team Alpha and Beta, are they ready for immediate deployment?" I asked. My voice was calm, but every syllable was steel.

"Yes, sir," Max replied. "The gears are ready, and their psychic shields are up. The surveillance drones are also positioned. We can close in within twelve minutes."
