Chapter 57 - Elena and ‘The Veil’ 2

Adrian POV

The first light of dawn hadn't touched the city, but the storm inside my head raged as though it had. I was still in the training dome, though Max and Thorne were with me.

Sometimes I spend time practicing with them, but today they both couldn't pick up due to the fierceness of my attacks.

Every fiber of me ached not from physical exertion, but from the psychic pulse that still clung to me, lingering traces of Elena's presence, her fear, her strength, all mingled with the residue of the enemy's attack.

I rubbed my temples, trying to shake off the flicker of doubt that had wormed its way into my thoughts overnight. 

The visions of what 'The Veil' had done haunted me, twisting, reshaping, turning Elena into someone unrecognizable, someone I might not fully trust. 

I clenched my fists. I had to remind myself: it wasn't real. Not entirely, 'The Veil' thrived on chaos, on bending minds, leaving seeds of suspicion where there should be none.
