Watching Tang Hao "flee in panic," Yun Chuan pretended to control the Thousand-Hand Guanyin to give brief chase before stopping.
"The Haotian Douluo… actually ran away."
In the distance, Flender and Zhao Wuji, who had been watching the battle, were both dumbfounded. They didn't know what had really happened. From their point of view, they only saw Yun Chuan use a Martial Soul Fusion Skill to create a giant entity that looked overwhelmingly powerful—and before long, the mighty Haotian Douluo put away his Martial Soul and ran off.
Ran off?
The dignified Haotian Douluo actually ran away?!
This unbelievable sight dealt a huge blow to their understanding of the world!
"Withdraw!"
The thirty-meter-tall Thousand-Hand Guanyin emitted a brilliant light before slowly disintegrating and fading away… Yun Chuan's figure reappeared where it had stood. Looking in the direction Tang Hao had vanished, Yun Chuan thought to himself that tonight's harvest was not bad.
A battle against a Titled Douluo—just the insights he'd gained from that would be enough for him to digest and comprehend for quite some time.
"Wake up, come back to your senses."
Yun Chuan walked up to the still-stunned Flender and Zhao Wuji, waving a hand in front of them. Finally, they snapped out of their daze and stammered, "J-just now, y-you actually repelled the Haotian Douluo?!"
At this point, the two of them didn't even know what to say anymore.
"You're overthinking it." Yun Chuan rolled his eyes. Beat Tang Hao? How could that be possible?
Although he had several "cheats" on him, he hadn't yet fully unlocked their true potential. His strength was still confined within the Douluo cultivation system—there was simply no way a Soul Sage could defeat a Titled Douluo, that would be far too exaggerated.
Especially when that Titled Douluo happened to be Tang Hao—a man who, upon becoming a Titled Douluo, could hammer several others stronger than himself into fleeing in defeat.
"Then why did Lord Haotian…" Flender hesitated, not daring to finish saying the words "run away in panic."
"Didn't you see that the duration of one stick of incense had already long passed? He probably just got bored and didn't want to keep fighting," Yun Chuan said casually, making something up.
"So that's how it was…"
Flender and Zhao Wuji both let out sighs of relief. After all, if Yun Chuan—a Soul Sage—had truly beaten a Titled Douluo into fleeing, that would have shattered their worldview completely.
"Let's go. It's already the middle of the night. Time to go back and sleep."
Yun Chuan's figure flashed past the two of them as he quickly made his way back toward the dormitory.
Left behind, Flender and Zhao Wuji stared at each other for a moment before also turning back toward the academy.
——
Early morning.
Tang San had already risen early. Cultivating the Purple Demon Eye every morning had become a necessary daily task for him.
When he stepped out of the dormitory he shared with Oscar, the sky was still dark. After a night's rest, his inner power had fully recovered.
He leapt up onto a rooftop and began cultivating, facing the gradually emerging purple qi in the east.
Pressure was also a form of motivation. Though yesterday's battle with Yun Chuan had been completely one-sided—he was utterly suppressed—it was still a kind of combat experience. He could faintly feel that his soul power was on the verge of breaking through from level twenty-nine to level thirty.
Once he reached level thirty, with some focused cultivation, he could fill his soul power completely and then go hunt his third soul beast for another soul ring. By that time, his strength would undergo a qualitative leap.
When the sun rose, Tang San returned to the dormitory.
Oscar, his roommate, was still hugging his quilt and snoring loudly, even drooling in his sleep.
"Little Ao, wake up," Tang San said, pushing him.
"What is it? Let me sleep a bit more," Oscar mumbled.
Tang San frowned slightly. "Get up already. It's not early anymore. Haven't you heard the saying 'The plan of a day lies in the morning'?"
Oscar opened his eyes helplessly and looked at Tang San. "I'm not like you guys. You're Battle Soul Masters. I'm a Tool Soul Master—specifically a food-type one. I don't need to train as intensely as you do. Brother, could you please let me sleep a bit longer?"
Tang San sighed. "Then at least tell me where Xiao Wu's staying. I want to check on her, see if she's recovered."
Oscar said, "Go left after leaving our dorm, about thirty meters. There's a wooden cabin there—that's where Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong live. But let me remind you, the academy has a strict rule: male students can't casually disturb female students. Otherwise, the punishment will be severe.
"Our Shrek Academy occupies about one-third of this village; the other part is where the villagers live. Usually, don't wander into that area too much."
Indeed, Shrek Academy wasn't wealthy. The entire school was built by renting a third of the village and converting it into a simple campus. The so-called dorms were just the villagers' old wooden houses. Fortunately, it was close to Soto City, so buying supplies wasn't too inconvenient.
Tang San left the dormitory again. His stomach was already growling, but compared to Xiao Wu's condition, that could wait.
Soon, Tang San arrived outside Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong's dorm.
Should he go in directly? If it were only Xiao Wu, it would be fine—they had lived together for so long, like siblings. But with another girl there, it would be inappropriate.
After hesitating, Tang San chose not to go in. He called softly from outside, "Xiao Wu, Xiao Wu…"
Before long, the door opened, and Xiao Wu stepped out. She was wearing the same clothes as yesterday. Seeing her appear, Tang San finally sighed in relief. "Xiao Wu, are you feeling better?"
Xiao Wu gestured for him to be quiet. "Rongrong is still cultivating, don't disturb her. Let's talk over there."
For some reason, Tang San felt that Xiao Wu's gaze toward him today seemed different, though he couldn't tell exactly what had changed.
Tang San rubbed Xiao Wu's head. "It's my fault yesterday—I didn't protect you well."
Xiao Wu shook her head and stuck out her tongue. "I already said, that teacher was just too strong. How can you blame yourself? This place is nothing like Nuoding. It feels like everyone here is powerful. Luckily, there wasn't a Soul Douluo-level powerhouse around."
Tang San asked curiously, "How do you know there's no Soul Douluo in the academy? Even the teachers are Soul Sages—maybe the dean is a Soul Douluo?"
Xiao Wu froze for a second, then covered awkwardly, "I just guessed. A Soul Douluo wouldn't stay in such a small place and live quietly."
Tang San didn't doubt her words and didn't ask further. He took Xiao Wu's hand and said, "Let's go find something to eat. You must be hungry too."
"Sure, I'm starving." Xiao Wu nodded, regaining her usual liveliness and even holding Tang San's arm cheerfully.
The two were newcomers to Shrek Academy and didn't know the place well. So, they looked around for rising smoke—hoping to find where food was being cooked.
The village wasn't large. As they walked, they soon found themselves outside the academy's grounds.
While the academy side was quiet, the villagers on the other side were already busy with their day. As the sun rose, they went to work in the fields—a farmer's daily routine, working to feed their families.
Since they didn't know where breakfast was served in the academy, Tang San decided to buy some food from the village for himself and Xiao Wu.
Just as they were about to approach a farmhouse, they noticed a boy and a girl arguing ahead.
The two looked young—the girl around fourteen or fifteen, her appearance ordinary but full of youthful vitality. Dressed in simple farmer's clothes, she was clearly a villager's daughter.
The boy she was arguing with looked even younger—about the same age as Tang San and Xiao Wu. He was short and chubby, but his sturdy build gave off a sense of strength. His short hair, small eyes, and plump cheeks made him look somewhat cute.
The funniest part was the two small patches of fuzz on his upper lip—clearly just starting to grow—making him look like he had a pair of mouse whiskers.
The girl looked at the chubby boy with fear in her eyes. "Ma Hongjun, don't come looking for me again. I won't be with you anymore."
Ma Hongjun said in a strange tone, "Cuihua, haven't I treated you well? Why are you breaking up with me?"
Tang San and Xiao Wu exchanged glances, amusement in their eyes. Kids these days—already talking about breakups at such a young age. They stopped to watch the scene with interest.
Cuihua's face flushed slightly. "You've been good to me, but I just can't take it anymore. We're not right for each other. You should find someone else. Besides, I'm a few years older than you. Please, just don't look for me again."
Ma Hongjun's expression darkened. "What do you mean you can't take it? I really don't get what's going on in you girls' heads. Fine, we can break up—but only if you do it with me one more time! Otherwise, no way." As he spoke, he reached out to grab Cuihua's hand.
Cuihua shrank back like a frightened rabbit, but the chubby boy was surprisingly quick and still managed to grab her. "No, stop! Please let me go! What's wrong with you? Are you even human?" she pleaded.
Xiao Wu couldn't stand it anymore and jumped forward. "Stop right there!"
Both Ma Hongjun and Cuihua froze and turned to look.
The chubby boy blinked, his little mouse whiskers twitching as his small eyes lit up with color. "Wow, such a pretty girl. What, are you volunteering to take her place as my girlfriend? Sure, no problem—I accept."
"Bullshit!" Xiao Wu snapped furiously and kicked at his hand, knocking it away from Cuihua. "You little pervert! You're already learning bad things at your age? In broad daylight, are you trying to abduct a girl?"
At her words, Ma Hongjun's face sank. "This is between us—don't stick your nose where it doesn't belong! If you don't want to be my woman, then get lost!"
"You…" Xiao Wu was about to strike again, but Tang San stepped in front of her. "Your name is Ma Hongjun, right? Please stop bothering this girl."
After what happened yesterday, Tang San didn't want Xiao Wu getting into unnecessary fights again.
Besides, he could already sense that this chubby boy wasn't as simple as he looked.
