Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2: THIS WAS AN EXECUTION

Meanwhile, later that night, at the police station, a detective known as Detective Decker was heading home after a long day of work, his mind still reeling from the cases he'd been working on. The rain poured down around him, casting a gloomy spell over the city.

As he drove through the wet streets, he let out a tired yawn, his eyes drooping slightly. Just as he was about to rub the fatigue from his eyes, his phone rang, shrill in the silence of his car. He picked it up without checking the screen, answering in a tired voice, "Hello. This is Detective Decker. What's the situation?"

There was a pause on the other end, and then Alvin, his partner, replied in a crisp voice, "Decker, we've got a body in a deserted alley. Looks like a homicide."

Decker's gut tightened as he listened to the details, his mind snapping into focus. "Who's the vic?" he asked, his eyes fixed on the road ahead.

"Unknown at this point," Alvin replied. "Forensics is on the way to take fingerprints and try to ID the body. I'll ping you the location."

"I'm on my way," Decker said, hanging up the phone with a sigh. He headed towards the alley, ready to start investigating.

Detective Shawn Decker and his partner, Alvin WinCo, were a seasoned duo in the police department. Decker, a sharp-witted and fiercely dedicated investigator, had been on the force for over a decade. Alvin, a skilled and intuitive detective, had been his partner for five years. Together, they had solved countless cases and had a reputation for being one of the most effective teams in the department.

As Decker arrived at the scene, he was stopped by three officers who didn't recognize him at first. "I'm sorry, sir, you can't go this way. This area is closed off for the moment," one of the officers said, holding up a hand to block Decker's path.

Decker flashed his badge. "Detective Decker," he said, his voice firm. The officers looked at each other uncertainly, then one of them nodded.

But before they could say anything, Alvin appeared beside them. "Let him through, he's with me," Alvin said, nodding at Decker.

The officers stepped aside, and Decker followed Alvin into the alley, his eyes scanning the scene.

"What's the situation?" Decker asked, his gaze falling on the body.

"Male victim, no ID on him," Alvin replied. "Forensics is on the way to take fingerprints and see if we can get a match."

Decker nodded, his eyes taking in the details of the crime scene.

Decker sighed, "Man, oh man, I was just on my way home when you called." He said, pulling his cigarette from his pocket and trying to light it as the rain momentarily let up.

Alvin shot him a disapproving look, "Don't you know those are bad for you?" he said with a frown, as he took a swig from the flask in his jacket pocket.

Decker smirked, "You're one to talk, I'm sure that's not water in that flask." Alvin's expression turned sheepish for a moment before he shrugged, "Hey, it's been a long day."

Decker chuckled, finally managing to light his cigarette, the flame casting a brief glow on his face before the wind extinguished it.

As Decker looked closer, he saw gunshot wounds - one in the lower abdomen, one in the lung, and the chest wound that struck through the heart. "This was an execution," he said, his voice low and serious.

After examining the body, Decker took a long drag of his cigarette. Suddenly, his eyes widened in realization, and he started coughing wildly.

"See, I told you those are bad for you," Alvin said with a mocking smile.

Decker composed himself, his expression turning grave. "Alvin, tell forensics there's no need to identify. I know who this young man is – the young heir to the Wright Family, David Wright."

"Oh shit," Alvin said, his expression turning serious as the weight of the situation sank in. "The Wright Family is going to lose their minds when they find out about this."

"Someone call Captain Larcon," Decker said, his voice firm and urgent. "We need to get ahead of this and brief him on the situation ASAP. This is going to blow up fast, and I want to make sure we're prepared."

Decker's expression turned grim as he began to survey the scene more thoroughly. "Alvin, let's get the forensic team to process the area and see if we can find any evidence. I want to know everything about what happened here."

Alvin nodded and started directing the forensic team to begin collecting evidence. Decker walked over to the nearest officer, who was taking notes.

"Officer, what's the situation here?" Decker asked. "Who called it in and when?"

The officer looked up from his notebook. "It was an anonymous call, Detective. The caller said there was a body in the alley. We arrived at 10:45 PM and found the victim."

Decker nodded. "Get the call log and any audio from the call. I want to know if the caller said anything else."

The officer nodded and started to make a call to dispatch. Decker turned back to Alvin, who was now standing next to him.

"Alvin, I want you to start canvassing the area, see if anyone saw or heard anything suspicious. Check with the local businesses and residents, see if they have any security cameras that may have caught something."

Alvin nodded and started to walk away, but Decker called out to him. "And Alvin?"

"Yeah?"

"Be careful what you say about the victim's identity. We don't want the Wright Family finding out about this from someone else."

Alvin nodded understandingly and headed off to start canvassing. Decker watched him go, his mind racing with the possibilities of what this case could mean. He knew that the Wright Family would stop at nothing to protect their reputation, and Decker was about to find himself right in the middle of a firestorm.
