Chapter 70 - Clearing a Gate with Teamwork

In the recruit teams a lot of people leveled up and moved up a team.

There were now 19 teams in total and teams 15-19 had just four members.

After some consideration, Lucas decided on who to take to Horgen.

Horgen had 5 D-rank gates, 8 E-rank gates and 18 F-rank gates.

Lucas decided to take all combat teams and recruit teams 1-4.

The rest would stay to guard their gates in Zurich and train at the headquarters.

After announcing the news to all guild members, they all started preparing.

After an hour of preparation, everyone left together.

Over a hundred awakened Helios guild members moved as one towards Horgen.

Most of the logistics department also accompanied them and this time even some strategy department members accompanied them.

After less than an hour of driving, they arrived.

Lucas left the communication with the awakened military squad in Horgen to strategy department head Hans Freuler.

Horgen unfortunately didn't have an association branch.

Lucas then gathered all of the awakened members to assign them their missions.

"Alright everyone, listen up!"

"For most of you this will be your first big mission. I have faith in your abilities, so show the whole country what the Helios guild is capable of!"

Everyone cheered for a short while before Lucas told them where to go.

"Teams Reid and Jackson will clear the F-rank gates along with the 4 recruit teams here. You will clear one gate at a time and don't split up too far from eachother."

They responded.

"Yes sir!"

"Teams Alves, Inoue, Wu, Mendes, Jansen and Sato will handle the E-rank gates. You will first split into three teams each to clear one gate each and after that every of the six teams will take on one of the remaining six E-rank gates each."

"Yes sir!"

"Teams Monet, Brugg and Wilson will challenge their first D-rank gate. It will be the kobold cave gate, since it's the easiest to handle and we have the most information on them."

"Before entering, you will discuss on what to do with the strategy team."

"I will handle the remaining 4 D-rank gates."

"Does everyone understand?"

"Yes sir!"

'With 51 awakened entering the D-rank gate, I don't have to worry too much.'

'The D-rank kobolds might be too strong for most of them individually, but there are only 50 of them and they can use different tactics. The kobolds are stupid and there are a few awakened members who kill a few of them by themselves.'

'I also chose Wilson's team to join because they have a healer. With that they have 2 healers in total.'

'It still definitely won't be easy even with tactics since a real fight is a lot different in practice than in theory and it can be unpredictable. I still believe they can succeed without casualties.'

Lucas was both worried but confident in their abilities.

While every was moving towards their targets except for the three teams who had the D-rank gate as their target, since they had to strategize first, Lucas didn't just stand idly around.

He left for the D-rank gates and summoned his avatars.

Lucas also secretly ordered Ghost and Lyrielle to follow the three teams into the D-rank gates in case something happens.

Aurelio, Elara, Krasbert and Grishna were sent to clear one D-rank gate.

William was sent alone to one D-rank gate.

Arthur to another and Lucas took the last one.

Albert was at the smithy in the headquarters as always and Caroline started working in her office at the headquarters today. She was doing the paperwork that Lucas didn't want and have time to do.

She actually enjoyed doing this kind of work.

She was also still in a very good mood because of what happened this morning with her and Lucas.

***

After about half an hour when Lucas and his avatars were just finishing up with their gates, the guild members were still very busy inside their gates and teams Monet, Brugg and Wilson had just entered their gate after some strategizing.

They were currently inside the cave close to the entrance.

They only encountered a few E-rank hyena kobolds and quickly killed them.

Even the weakest guild member was as strong as a maximum level hyena kobold, but unlike these E-rank monsters, the guild members had skills.

The three teams soon arrived inside a larger cavern in front of 5 tunnels.

They already knew the layout of the gate, so they made plans beforehand.

Team Wilson entered one tunnel.

The other two teams split up into smaller teams of 10.

Now in every tunnel were 10 people except for team Wilson with 11.

They started hunting all the E-rank hyena kobolds until they reached the end of the tunnels and were in front of a much larger cavern.

Inside this large cavern resided the remaining 100 E-rank kobolds and around 10 D-rank wolf kobolds watching over them.

The 51 awakened Helios guild members didn't wait around until they were discovered.

They all stepped out of the tunnels and charged at every kobolds in sight.

All of them made sure to stick close to eachother for back up.

Hugo was at the very front already fighting against a couple D-rank kobolds.

The D-rank kobold's physical stats were around 40 on average and their best skill was D-rank.

There were around the same amount of awakened as the D-rank kobolds with similar physical stats plus higher ranked skills.

It didn't take them long to kill all of them.

Since there were still over 100 monsters at the beginning, it still took around 20 minutes to finish, but they suffered only minor injuries and they had two healers as support.

Hunting the remaining D-rank kobolds further inside the cave was even easier.

Most of them were alone in their sleeping quarters, so it was easy for 5 people to ambush them.

The three teams soon arrived in the boss room and faced the C-rank red alpha wolf kobold.

Even though many had superior ranked skills than the boss monster, no one could defeat it by themselves due to his much superior stats.

Hugo Monet, Kristian Antić and Pablo Garcia of team Monet charged the boss monster while Andreas Brugg and James Wilson, the other two captains, supported them with long range attacks.

Hugo blocked and counterattacked the boss monster at the front while Kristian distracted it with his spear along with the magic attacks from Andreas and arrows from James until finally Pablo caught it of guard and beheaded the big boss kobold with his longsword.

The rest of the guild members had already taken care of the remaining D-rank kobolds and were cheering when they saw the boss monster's head roll on the ground.

"We did it!"

"Let's goo!"

"Yeahh!!"
